Show Orem-Geneva Times Page 4 ProvoOrem Chamber of Commerce Wednesday, January 30, 1991 Continued from Front Page Chairman Looks at 1991 . . . to establish a persuasive voice for the Chamber in government affairs; not only in the cities of Provo and Orem, but in the county, coun-ty, the state, and the nation. The Membership and Development Council will continue con-tinue to encourage new membership member-ship in the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and encourage membership member-ship involvement and retention through coordinating activities of the entire Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and its programs. The ProvoOrem Chamber of Commerce is involved in several special events each year that are designed to honor and recognize outstanding citizens and businesses and individuals as well as to broaden the base of the Chamber's activities to improve im-prove the quality of life in the ProvoOrem area. The Business Education Council of the Chamber has tremendous opportunity and responsibility to develop activities, ac-tivities, programs and resources to assist the educational process. A tremendous effort has been begun in the technology initiative initia-tive and it is imperative that the Chamber and its members support sup-port this process to provide the very highest quality of education for the young people of our communities. com-munities. It is my goal as the Chairman Chair-man of the Board to facilitate the work of all of these councils and at the same time devote energy to the issues related to tourism and the Olympic bid for the State of Utah, particularly as it relates to activities that can and should be developed in Utah County. I believe that there can be a more closely developed process with the Utah Coir y Travel Council, the Chamber the businesses and agencies of Utah County to further their common causes. I look forward to working with Steve Densley and his staff, the Board, the members of tne Chamber and the citizens of these great communities during this year of 1991, and invite you to become involved as a chamber member or a more active chamber cham-ber member in these processes. WIMCO's Year in Review By Kathy Buckner Karla Holm of USX assumes as-sumes the leadership of WTMCO (Women in Management Council) Coun-cil) this year, succeeding Barbara Bar-bara Curtis, a broker with Dean Witter. The transition follows a successful year with a number of exciting developments. WTMCO continues to support sup-port projects in the community which improve opportunities for young women. For the past three years, WTMCO has made contributions con-tributions of time and money to Utah Youth Village, the primary source of care and rehabilitation for troubled teen-age girls in Utah. Cash contributions have also been made to the Girl Scouts scholarship fund, and WTMCO sponsored a candidate to Girls State. Programs of the organization organiza-tion are designed to further the professional development of Utah County's business and professional women. Monthly luncheons focus on various aspects of interest. For example, Steven Studdert, former advisor to Presidents Bush and Reagan, discussed world events and the probability of war in the Middle East. He noted that developments develop-ments in Eastern Europe are encouraging, en-couraging, although change in those countries will not come about without a great deal of sacrifice and pain. The beginning of 1991 also brings a number of changes on the WTMCO Board of Directors. Resigning their positions are Jeanine Wyatt of the Seven Peaks Resort, Carol Douglas of Mansell and Associates, and Sharon Campbell of Sears Telecatalog. Their dedicated service has been greatly appreciated. ap-preciated. New members include in-clude Sandee Carpenter of SOS Temporaries, Jackie Stuart of Stevens-Henager College, Debra Lund of Kelly Temporaries, Tem-poraries, Jan Lewis of Northwestern Mutual Life, and Sharon Muir of the Utah Girl Scouts.
