Show Utah County's spotlight - Wednesday, May 31, 1984 - Page 1 ii) w )i (i On Earn TV college This summer KUED 7 in conjunction con-junction with Southern Utah State College and Utah Technical College at Salt Lake will offer three college credit telecourses - "Programming for the Gifted: Models and Methods," a 12-part series dealing with p-ogram models for educating gifted, talented and creative students; "The New Literacy: An Introduction to Computers," a beginners guide to the use and function of computers; and "Understanding "Un-derstanding Human Behavior," an introduction to psychology. Courses begin Saturday, June 16, on KUED 7. Teachers, high school students -anyone desiring college credit -may find the convenience of telecourses an added benefit during Hansen holds free star shows "The Hansen Planetarium invites the Wasatch Front public to be our guests for the final weekend presentations of 'A Comet Called Halley' and the International Commercial Film Festival Clio Award Winners," announced Von Del Chamberlain, planetarium director. "We want everyone to know that the Hansen Planetarium is presenting excellent star shows," Chamberlain said. "Recent public accusations have implied that Hansen Planetarium programs have deterioriated. 'A Comet Called Halley' is an excellent example of our staff's recent work. We invite the public to see this show for free and judge our quality of service for themselves," Chamberlain Cham-berlain stated. Since taking the reins at the Campground Beginning May 21, the Uinta and Wasatch-Cache National Forests will be co-sponsoring a program which will make it unnecessary for campers to carry cash or checkbooks check-books onto those two National Forests to pay campground fees. The Forest Service will be conducting con-ducting a test program to sell campground passes for use only in designated fee campgrounds on the Uinta and Wasatch-Cache Forests. The public will bp ble to purchase pur-chase these passes . 10 percent discount from any Waatch-Cache or Uinta National Forest Office. Each pass will be valid for one night's stay at any time within two years from the purchase date. A separate pass is needed for each night's stay, and there is no limit on the number of passes a person can purchase at one time. The pass consists of two parts -one part to be deposited in the fee Think health at fair Cancer screening and hearing tests don't sound like the usual attractions found at a fair, unless you're attending the annual Utah County Health Fair at the University Mall. Community health organizations including the Provo Surgical Center, American Cancer Society, Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and Alcoholics Anonymous will be providing free services to the public. The health organizations will be providing information and services on cancer, pulmonary screening, blood pressure, first aid, stress tests, pediatric therapy, surgery, diabetes, and more. Payson Art Festival slated The Payson Community Arts Guild is sponsoring their "Third Annual Payson Art Festival" during the month of June. Entries will be accepted June 14 and 15 between 2 and 6 p.m. at the Payson Library (upstairs), 439 West Utah Avenue. - - Judging of all entries will be Saturday, June 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Professional judges from Utah will be judging. Exhibiting will be open to the public at 3 p.m. June 16 and will continue through Friday, June 22. Daily schedule will be announced at a later date. Entries will be judged in four categories: 1. Paintings (all media). 2. Photography (must be mounted). 3. Drawings. 4. 3- Art Guild sponsors show The Utah Valley Artist Guild is sponsoring a special one (lay show June 9 as part of the annual Springville Art City Days celebration. The exhibit will be on the lawn in front of the art museum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If weather is questionable, it will be in the museum. Because of popular demand, the exhibit is extended to all artists in the Utah Valley area. It will be a juried show with ribbons and cash prizes awarded. The show will also feature demonstrations such as the throwing of pottery, etc. Each artist may enter one to three pieces of art. An entry fee of $1.50 per painting is asked. All paintings must be framed, ready to Children's museum hours set The Children's Museum will be open daily from June 1 until August 31. The summer schedule will be as follows: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Monday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Children's Museum of Utah is a hands-on science museum for children of all ages. Brockbank, producing director of Utah Pageant of the Arts, will be a featured guest on "Four Front," Sunday, June 3 at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Brockbank will be interviewed in-terviewed about the 1984 Pageant production by Thorn Dillon, who moderates the popular Channel 4 program. Slides of selections in the new show will illustrate the interview, giving viewers a glimpse of the wide variety of selections to be seen in the June 9 through July 20 production.
