It will involve all residents of Orem. Called "Report A Crime," the new program allows any resident to report information of any type of crime to city police without having to identify himself. "Of course we prefer they would identify themselves, but they don't have to," says Lt. Michael Wightman, patrol division commander. "The program encourages citizens who are aware of a crime or know the identity of a. criminal offender of-fender to leave a message for this department to follow up on," says Wightman. The number to call is 224-7171. The caller will receive a recorded message of instruction and then will be given time to leave a message. The taped messages will be listened to daily dai-ly and the information disseminated to the proper department. Residents should be reminded that the new number is designed to report crimes in progress or to give information about a crime. It is not to be confused with the emergency number 911 which is still in effect. It also is not for complaints or routine police calls. .... "i t ' , . ; .
