MIKELL FIELD HOLLY BROWN Two MVHS Seniors Win Elks Teenage Program Holly Brown, daughter of Norma and Russell Brown, and Mikell Field, son of Don and JoAnn Field, seniors at Mountain View High School, were named as the Utah County School winners in the annual Elks Teenager program sponsored by the Provo Elks Lodge No. 849. They were first selected by the high school faculty to represent them as Bruin Teenagers. This program was initiated last fall to focus attention on students who were striving to contribute to each of their classes in a positive way. Each quarter 14 students were named as Bruin Teenagers. The culmination of that program was to select one boy and one girl to represent Mountain View as their entrant in the "Elks Teenager of the Year" program. Holly Hol-ly and Mikell were chosen and ireceived a $50.00 cash award and an invitation to attend the Elks Banquet with their parents. Robert D.Osborn, chairman of the Elks Youth Activities Committee, announced the Mountain View students as winners of the County Teenager program and presented them with a check for an additional $100.00 each. This is the second year in a row that two MVHS students have received this recognition. . Bruce Prince Receives PhD J. Bruce Prince, son of Fenton and Lillian Prince of Orem, recently received his PhD degree from the University of Southern California. Dr. Prince's specialty areas within hs Business Administration Major were Career Management and Organizational design. His dissertation disser-tation research investigated how different dif-ferent personal career orientations fit particular patterns of mobility opportunity op-portunity in business organizations. Bruce is a graduate of Orem High and the Orem Seminary, also Snow Junior College. He received a bachelors of science degree from Utah State University in 1973. He completed a Master of Arts degree, graduating with honors (Cum Laude) in Organizational behavior at Brigham Young University Univer-sity in 1977. He has been employed for two years by Hughes Air Craft Company Com-pany in Los Angeles California where he was contract Administrator in Lasar Division contracts, Electric Spencer School Commended For Outstanding PTA For the second straight year, Orem's Spencer Elementary School has been named the "Outstanding Parent Teacher Association" unit in the Orem PTA Council for 1983-84. Orem Council President Linnea S. Barney, in announcing the unit's success in winning the award twice, praised the work of Spencer PTA President Sharon Harris, her officers, and Principal Michael Pratt. "In addition to having a full PTA program, the Spencer PTA conducted a successful campaign to make the Alpine School Board and the public aware of the need for a new school building," Mrs. Barney said. "That program has resulted in approval of a new elementary school building in west Orem for the area now served by Spencer School." Currently, children are bused from west Orem to the Spencer School building, which is located on the corner cor-ner of 800 South and State Street in Orem. The Spencer PTA has been campaigning for the new school since the present situation was created five , years ago. For his role in helping the PTA, Mr. Pratt was honored by the Orem PTA Council last week as Orem's Most Supportive Principal. The Spencer School PTA's efforts made its program a beacon for the other 18 PTA units in the Orem council, coun-cil, Mrs. Barney added. As part of its program, Spencer School PTA produced a regular newsletter, sponsored a successful Reflections program, staged a Teacher Appreciation Night and conducted con-ducted a Be A Better Parent month and workshop, as well as numerous other activities. Select Right Tomato For Home Gardens On June 7, 1984, at 8 p.m., Duane Hatch will present a seminar on Intensive In-tensive Vegetable Gardening. Duane is a recognized authority in vegetable production, having contributed to many publications including Ortho Vegetable Gardening Books. He appears ap-pears regularly on t.v. and radio programs in the Salt Lake City area and will present a very interesting and informative seminar. It will be held in the Commission Chambers, Room 311, third floor of the Utah County Building. The cost is 50c and will include handouts. Home Gardening Class A Home Gardening Class in cooperation. with Alpine School District and Utah State Extension Service will emphasize disease, insect, in-sect, and -weed control; drip irrigation; and time and money-saving money-saving garden techniques. Pageant Of Arts Box Office Opens The Utah Pageant of the Arts box office, located in the basement of the American Fork Senior Citizens building, opened full time, Tuesday, May29. Box office hours will be 10 A.M. to 6 p.m. daily, except Sundays and holidays, according to Marcia Peterson, Peter-son, box officer manager. The office is located at 54 East Main. Over-the-counter, mail orders Orem-Geneva Times- -Thursday, May 31, 1984 and telephone sales will be accepted at the Pageant box office during business hours, Mrs. Peterson said. Telephone orders for the June 9 through July 20 production of "living pictures" may be made by calling 756-3541 or the Salt Lake City num-ber533-0G61. Pageant tickets are only $9 or $7 and include admission to a Professional and Youth Art Exhibit sponsored by the Pageant, as well as the Pre-Show Seminars on the arts, which are presented nightly before each performance, Mrs. Peterson said. The box office has been open since sin-ce March 13 on a part-time basis, with ticket sales progressing well ahead of last year.
