The Planemakers" is one of the productions scheduled to be performed perfor-med this summer at the SCERA Shell. "The Planemaker" will feature Marvin Payne, who is a professional songwriter, performer and recording recor-ding artist. He has written and released ten albums of original songs and has written for several internationally-known artists. "The Planemaker" tells about a small boy, Lucas Lightbrow, who dreams that he can fly, maybe even out to the stars. Two joys consume his young life - courting lovely Amy Fletcher and building wild flying machines of wing and wire - but he loses Amy at the birth of their only child. Lucas sends his son to be raised by city relatives, tends his farm alone, and grows old and embittered, utterly disillusioned. Then his mysterious grandson comes to visit for the summer, finds the forgotten planes, magically flies them, and with wide-eyed reports and loving coaxes and finally even with souvenirs from all over the world, brings the old man's dreams to life again. "The Planemaker" will play in the Shell beginning July 13. Susan McCloud, who wrote the screenplay for "John Bakers Last Race" and several briskly-selling novels along with Marvin Payne wrote this script. Newell Dayley wrote the music to Payne's lyrics. "Charlies Monument" will star Marvin Payne in the title role as the tender, crippled man, who overcomes over-comes adversity and wins the respect of the 1890's frontier town that cast him out. Rosanna Weeks Ungerman, who is currently staring in "My Fair Lady," at the Promised Valley Playhouse in Salt Lake City, plays Nellie, whose love and faith restores Charlie's self-esteem and ultimately saves his life. "Charlies Monument" will begin July 12 and run July 14 and July 16. Show time is 8 : 00 d .m. Strawdog Set For July 11, 18; August 1, 8, 15 Anyone liking Scottish-Irish tunes, Western swing, and ragtime will want to be at the SCERA Shell July 11 and 18 at 7 p.m. and August 1, 8, and 15. Strawdog is a traditional bluegrass and old-time fiddle band who will be performing on those nights. This multi-talented foursome can provide a delightful, entertaining concert, as well as square dancing, complete with instruction for the participants. par-ticipants. The band is comprised of four members. Dave Hunt has played classical violin for many years and while he still plays in an orchestra, fiddling is now his favorite. Kent Wing plays the banjo and mandolin for the band, in addition to teaching private banjo lessons. Tom Shultz plays guitar, and two instruments that add an extra dimension to their music - the dobro and hammer dulcimer. Terry Brown plays mandolin, man-dolin, banjo, guitar and fiddle. .
