One of the most over looked facet of cultural arts in Utah Valley is the Ballet so the SCERA SHELL is proud to present the Aspen Folk and Ballet Company presenting "Swan Lake." All areas sent representatives to meet and work out plans. It was decided that the proposed auditorium would be built without subsidy or aid from any government, church or outside source. sour-ce. The community would have 100 control. Funds were raised by selling bonds of $25.00 or more that would earn 2 interest over ten years. Henry Taylor was appointed Trustee-in-trust for the bondholders. Everything would be paid for in bonds bon-ds - labor, materials - everything. Architect Fred Markham superintendent superin-tendent of the building Sydney Guff, and the builder, Frank Wooffinden all took bonds for pay. Groundbreaking took place March 23, 1940. One thousand families subscribed to bonds. Hundreds Hun-dreds turned out to donate both skilled and unskilled labor. A committee com-mittee knocked on every door in the area for help and businesses were contacted. Victor Anderson was everywhere, helping, cheering and even treating the workers. No one will ever know how much of Mr, Anderson's An-derson's own money went into the support of the struggling SCERA that could not afford a salary for him. It was ten years before he could be asked to retire from his career of teaching to devote full time to SCERA. When he moved to Washington as an elected Utah Senator he carried the story of SCERA and a picture of the auditorium with him and he delighted to tell anyone about it who would listen. The beautiful SCERA Auditorium was ready for dedication on Labor Day September 1, 1941. Dignitaries from all over the state as well as a delegation of moving picture executives attended the day-long exercises along with the proud and ;xcited crowds from the community. Regional Talent Contest Scheduled August 2 Two Utah County Fair Regional Talent Contests will be held at the SCERA Shell. Provo and south county coun-ty will be held August 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. Youth who are 15 years of age and younger will perform on August 2 and those 16 and over will perform on August 3. Orem and north county will be held August 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. Youth 15 and younger will perform August 9 and those 16 and over will perform August 10. Entry forms for entering the contests con-tests are available at the Utah County Coun-ty Office, 10 South 200 East, Provo ( in the Utah State Extension Office) or attheSCERAoffice.
