He worked hard to put the association on a sound financial base and succeeded, wise investments and properties helped to secure a successful future. In 1960 twenty five acres north of the auditorium which was now called the SCERA Theatre were purchased. It was for the development of a beautiful community park. A new swimming pool was built to replace the old1 one, grown too small. Again the people helped by monthly donations of 75 cents paid with their utility bills. As money allowed, play areas and pavilions were added and the park beautified. It is a favorite of everyone. A health spa was built on the old library corner and leased to and operated by Health Industries Incorporated Incor-porated adding to SCERA income. Difficulty with booking shows continued to be a problem but Mr. Hunt never compromised SCERA's principles of showing family films and closing on Sunday. With the phenomenal growth of Orem, the city fathers began looking ahead to building a community recreation center. In the late 70's they made an agreement with SCERA wherein the city would take over the financing and supervising of recreation while SCERA would withdraw with-draw and begin planning and ad-ministring ad-ministring the city's cultural arts programs. It was a hard decision to make but it seemed to be a wise one. After thirty years of service with SCERA and the Orem community, Mr. Hunt retired in 1981. We look with pride, along with him on all he accomplished ac-complished in those many dedicated years. For the third time the managers post needed filling. Again the SCERA Board found another great man to fill the place. An experienced friendly man, Norman Nielsen is an excellent choice for manager. He has lost no time into delving into the past history of SCERA. Its purpose, ideals, and goals he seems to understand. He is well acquainted with his community and draws on it for support and action. ac-tion. In a short time he has had the theatre remodeled and refurbished with new sound and projection. The candy counter has been expanded and beautified. The fountain has become "The SCOOP" for eating and relaxation. A larger volunteer staff wears impressive uniforms. For SCERA's Fiftieth Anniversary, Anniver-sary, a week of "Old Favorite" delighted us. A nostalgic renewal of pride is ours in our beautiful theatre and we are happy for all that has been accomplished. Financing will always be a problem along with many others but Norm seems to be doing what need to be done and finding how well we likeut. He impresses us as the man for the job as were those before him. SCERA is in good hands. We look forward to continuing as shareholders in the Sharon Community Com-munity Educational and Recreational Association SCERA.
