Dr. Jonathon Chamberlain, psychologist at Brigham Young' University Counseling Service, spoke on "Eliminating Self-Defeating Behaviors." He described these as thoughts, feelings and actions that keep people from accomplishing. "They stop us from being our best," he said. "Say 'yes' to things you want to do and say 'no' to things you don't want to do," he urged. "Remember that self-pity makes everything hurt doubly." He said that loneliness doesn't mean being alone. Nobody else causes depression but yourself, "You 'do' a depression," he continued. "It is necessary to find out how,, when, and why we become depressed and then avoid those situations if possible." "We all suffer consequences of our behavior problems," Dr. Chamberlain said. "We label ourselves and carry our established patterns with us-sometimes from childhood to adulthood." He outlined several techniques for changing patterns such as keeping keep-ing a diary of events and consequent emotions; of studying what effects follow certain behaviors and of visualizing situations and determining determin-ing in advance how to react. Naomi Biggs gave the litany and Gwen Anderson the Legislative Council Coun-cil report. Stephanie Hills sang two songs, accompanied by Pauline Hills. Open House To Honor Bernard G.
