BLAIR AND ELLEN BENCH Ellen Bench To Marry Gary Blair In Temple Sandra M. Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Ward, and Stephen Vashell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Vashell of Idaho Falls, will be married Saturday, May 5, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A reception will be held that evening even-ing at the Shalamar Reception Center, 2065 E. 6200 S., Salt Lake City, Ci-ty, from 7 to 9 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to join in the festivities. After a honeymoon in California the couple will make their home in Salt Lake city. The bride attended Dixie College and is now employed by United Parcel Service. The groom is a graduate of Utah State. University completing his studies in special education. Orem AAUW Holds Study Meeting The Orem Branch of the American Association of University Women held its regular monthly study meeting recently at the home of Ellen Allen. The business meeting was conducted by Margaret Johnson, president of the branch. The speaker for the evening was Vera Nielsen, who presented a lecture lec-ture and discussion on the topic of "Sex Role Stereotyping." Mrs. Nielsen is a former media coordinator coor-dinator in the Provo School District and drew her materials principally from books and other materials that can be found in elementary libraries and schools. She referred to some Consciousness Raisers that have been developed by educational groups to make individuals more conscious oi discrimination that can occur in materials used in schools and in public libraries. She expressed particular concern about Career Awareness should be occuring earlier in the elementary grades and not left to high school, to show both boys and girls thare are many options available to both in choice of careers. The speaker read excerpts from a number of print materials to show progress that has been made in aiieviating sex-role stereotying, but-concluded but-concluded there was still room for improvement. She showed a study that was done by the Utah State Department of Public Instruction that was to be published in a pamphlet pam-phlet available to all schools in Utah on this subject. Edna Carroll, vice president for program introduced the speaker and told the group of plans for an "Art Evening" to be held at the Provo Campus of the Utah Technical College on Thursday, May 10, beginning begin-ning at 6:00 p.m. The evening will begin with a dinner arranged by Margaret Sullivan, staff member at the UTC and featuring a traveling art show which will be displayed in the cafeteria during the evening. Ellen Bench will become the bride of Gary D. Blair in ceremonies to be performed -Saturday, May 5, 1984, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A reception will honor the couple that evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Orem 11th Ward, 440 East 80Q South. Parents of the bride-elect are Dr. and Mrs. John R. Bench of Orem. Parents of the prospective groom are Ruth B. Blair and Mr. and Mrs. Merrill E. Blair, all of Orem. 'Attending the bride at the reception will be Gretta Millett, Jennifer Bench, Diane Leonhardt, Cindee Stinger and Carrie Bench. Callie Bench will be the flower girl. Groom's attendants will be Eddie Simmons, Dave Kendall and Mountainland Hosts Luncheon For Medical Employers A .luncheon for doctors, dentists den-tists and other medical-related employers will be hosted by Mountainland Small Business Support Group on May 9, 1984 at 12:30 p.m. at Schonwald Terrace, 1835 S. State, Orem. Reservations should be made no later than May 7 by calling Chris at Mountainland, 377-2262. Purpose of the luncheon will be to explain the Job Training Partnership Part-nership Program (JTPA). Through this program employers may obtain quality referrals to meet employer needs and receive financial benefits for hiring them. Robert Byrnes. Miss Bench is a graduate of Orem High School and LDS Seminary. While at OHS she was a member of Unified Studies. She attended Ricks College and is employed em-ployed as a dental assistant. Mr. Blair also is a graduate of Orem High and LDS Seminary. He is attending Utah Technical College and Brigham Young University majoring in Psychology. He played soccer for OHS and served a full-time full-time mission for the LDS Church. He is employed at Signetics. Prenuptial showers were given the bride by LaVerda Barron, Wilma Adams, Joan Herlin, Karen Farnworth, Virginia Hansen, Ranea Stone, Colleen Cordner, Margaret Christensen, Paige Kendall, Karen Hopkins, Diane Leonhardt, Cindee Stinger, Camille Dixon and Kim Baird. Following their marriage the couple will be at home in Orem. Gene and Nancy Hansgen of Orem announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Paula, to Ford Huffaker of Salt Lake City, on Tuesday, May 15, 1984 in the Salt" Lake LDS Temple. The prospective groom is the son of Alton and Marian Huffaker. Officiating at the ceremony will be Elder Marion D. Hanks. A reception will be held to honor the newlyweds that same evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at 470 West 750 South, Orem. An open house will be held the following evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Second Ward, Salt Lake City. Attending the bride will be Kathy Skinner, Becky Hansgen, and Michelle Hansgen, sisters of the bride. Todd Huffaker, brother of the groom, will be best man. The bride-elect graduated from Orem High School where she was a Tigerette. She attended Brigham Young University majoring in Elementary Education. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The groom-to-be graduated from West High School and is attending at-tending University of Utah. He played high school football. He served an LDS Mission to Missouri Independence. Following a honeymoon to Lake Tahoe, California, the couple will make their home in Salt Lake City. May Concerts Scheduled At Temple Square Concerts for the Temple Square Concert Series start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are no longer required for the concerts, which are free of charge and are sponsored by the Activities Committee of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
