Show Orem High Girls Place 2nd In Region IV Track Several Orein High School girls took riboons in the Girls Region IV Track and Field Meet held Wednesday, May 8. Orera High placed second in the Meet. Carrie Ekins placed first in the 220 yard and 100 yard dashes and second in the high jump. She made a new record in the 220 yd. finishing in 27.5 seconds. sec-onds. Other Orem High tracks-ters tracks-ters who placed in the meet were Esther Duncan, fifth place, discus; Ruth Gassman, fifth place in the 50 yard hurdles; Norma Erickson, fifth place, 100 yard dash; Tena Christensen, Christen-sen, sixth in the 440 yard dash; and Debbie Davis, sixth place, long jump. Orem teams who also placed were second place for the 880 pursuit relay, third place in the 440 relay, and third place in the 880 relay. Teams and individuals who placed first, second, or third qualify to go to the State Track Meet to be held at Highland High-land High School today, May 16, This is the first time a State Track Meet has been held. 408 Cub Scout Packs Make Yearlong Plans More than 8,280 Sub Scouts in this area can look forward to 12 monthly programs of fun, variety, action, and purpose as their 408 packs are now completing com-pleting yearlong plans, according accord-ing to W. As a program for parents, leaders, and organizations to use with boys 8, 9, and 10 years of age, Cub Scouting is a home-centered activity program pro-gram to meet boys' needs of fun, recognition for achievement, achieve-ment, belonging to something worthwhile, and learning new skills, DeSpain explained. In the second league match Tryouts For The American Legion Baseball Slated American Legion has announced that the American Legion Baseball tryouts will be held Friday, May 17 at 4:30 at the American Legion Diamond. The final results of the tournament tour-nament held last Wednesday, May 8, are Orem 10, Provo 7, Hillcrest 6, Kearns 4, Brighton Brigh-ton 2, Granger 1, and Murray 0. In the first singles division, Ron Jensen was defeated in the second round by Ken Dailey of Hillcrest 6-2. 6-1. Number 2 singles, Clint Friel defeated Lowry in finals, 6-7, 0. In the number 3 singles. Tony Spackman defeated Kevin Kennington of Hillcrest in the finals, 6-2, 6-2. Doubles results are: Joel DeRoest and Todd Williams defeated Sperry and Knudsen of Provo, 6-4, 6-1. in the finals. David Thacker and AlanC'imk .defeated lvins and Julketien of Provo, 6-0, 0-3. The 2nd place entrant ineach division also qualified for the State Tournament but tlio.se results re-sults were unavailable at press time.
