Consumers, it 1st said, feel powerless to communicate com-municate their complaints and anxieLes to manufacturers. The reason has to do with the complexity com-plexity of American business and an impersonal marketing structure struc-ture that has made even more remote re-mote those large, faceless national na-tional companies. Many companies recognize the problem and have taken steps to create a dialogue with their customers. At least one, for example, has set up nationwide toll-free telephone lines that enable en-able customers to talke directly with factory-based service rep-presentatives. rep-presentatives. On their own or cooperative ventures responsible business firms are opening up new channels of communication with customers in other ways.
