Show Orem High School Band and Orchestra Badge of Honor O AuarHpri Qnlrlio Completes Successful Year Tonight OHS Band and Orchestra To Play Final Concert Tonight The final concert of the Orem High School band and orchestra will be held tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 p.m. at the Orem High School auditorium, and will culminate, cul-minate, another successful year for the musicians, according to Wes Barry, director. Sixty seniors will be playing their final concert as the Concert Con-cert Band, Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band, totaling 225 musicians, bring theyear's work to a close. The finale number will combine the orchestra and band in the exciting ex-citing 1812 Overture by Tschaikovsky. Featured performers per-formers will be Elizabeth Lay-cock, Lay-cock, violin solo, and Marilee Johnson and Bonnie Murdock, flute duet. There will be something for everyone with stirring marches, serious composers, and light numbers in the popular field. Officers of the orchestra are Teri Nicholls, president; Pam Merrill, secretary. Band officers are:, Sterling Mortensen, president; Fred Carlson, vice president; Nanette Aiken, secretary; Marilee Johnson, John-son, Historian, Gail Patten serves as librarian to all organizations. organi-zations. The band and orchestra annually an-nually tour for part of a week. This year they played in Southeastern South-eastern Idaho. The band has played in all Western states and on the campuses of all Universities Universi-ties and junior colleges in the state. They have performed twice at different MENC Western Wes-tern Division Conferences, which is very unusual; one in San Diego, and one in Bakersfield, California. They have also performed per-formed at the World's Fair. The public is invited to attend the concert tonite in the school auditorium. The badge is a unique and cherished award that is highly coveted by its recpients. The award was originated during World War II to recognize the role of the infantryman. 11 w -x y Thursday, May 4, 1972 Spec. Clayburn received the award while assigned as an infantryman in-fantryman with Company B, 2nd Batalion, 8th Cavalry of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) NEAR Bien Hoa, The specialist entered the army in March 1971, completed Basic Training at Ft. Or d, Calif., and was last stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado. He is a 1969 graduate of Orem High School.
