Mrs. Melda Farley Hacking Is retiring as Secretary of the Cherry Hill Elementary School after 18 years with the Alpine School District. She began Sept. 1953, in the Westmore School as secretary to the Principal, Fen-ton Fen-ton J. Prince. In September of 1965 they both transferred to the new Cherry Hill School. An Open House at the Cherry Hill School May 12, will honor both the principal and his secretary, Mrs. Hacking was born in Orem, the eldest of three daughters daugh-ters and four sons of Carl and Jennie Terry Farley. She attended Spencer School, graduating grad-uating from the 8th grade, and entered the new Lincoln High School as a F ashman. She was active in music and drama and served as Studentbody Vice-President Vice-President during her junior year. She won a medal for her Lincoln Essay, and in the days before scholarships were awarded, received re-ceived a pin for scholarship. After graduating from Lincoln H igh School, Melda attended BYU for two years, where she was again active in music, returning to Lincoln High School to play the lead in the school operetta Pickles While attending BYU she worked in the office of the Dean of Fine Arts, GerritdeJong, Jr., for two years. From 1927 to 1929 she served in the Mexican Mission for th LDS Church. Fourteen months after release from her mission, she and George Reed Hacking from Magrath, Alberta, Canada were married. , ' r Bfc. . -, f ' i7 dancing and golf, and they have traveled in Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, and many parts of the United States. In 1969 they enjoyed a six week trip to the F ar East. They went by way of Anchorage, Alaska to Tokyo, Hong Kong and Bangkok, and then spent three weeks in Sangley Point in the Philippines visiting with their daughter Christine and her husband, Lt, William Steven Orem-Geneva Times Thursday, May 4, 1972 Hayes, and little grandson, Daren; returning home by way of In Logan, and the following Hawaii. brothers: Carroll Farley in Melda plans to do more Mt, Pleasant; and Stan, Merrill traveling with her husband, a 'id and Weston Farley in Orem. enjoy her grandson Daren, and get better acquainted with the children of her brothers and sisters sis-ters and their families.
