Miss Mary V. Gaver, professor profes-sor of library science at Rutgers Rut-gers University, N.J., and immediate im-mediate past president of the American Library Association, sounded the warning in an address add-ress to about 200 Utah librarians. She spoke in the Wilkinson Center on her return from the National convention of the association in San Francisco. By 1970 there will be a need for 140,000 librarians, Prof. Gaver Ga-ver asserted, and indicated that the profession has been slow to recognize the implications for itself in the changes in education. She explained-that new technology, technol-ogy, such as computer information informa-tion retrieval, has created new demands for services. In addition, addi-tion, federal funds have provided for expansion of elementary, high school, medical, and vocational libraries and libraries for the blind, not to mention the inauguration inaug-uration of libraries by many industries. She encouraged the Utahns to urge more college students to enter en-ter the field, to define jobs more adequately for better utilization of employees, and to work for better salaries for those with adequate preparation. ! These cases ran the gamut from cnerry pits in the ear of a youngster, a fish hook in the ear oi a ciu student. 11 lacera tions, fire cracker wounds, loss oi a linger and heat exhaustion. tight of the total including pa tients with abdominal pain, diz ziness, etc.. were admitted. Mr. Zenger advises in case of an emergency requiring medical care, a can to the familv Dhvsi cian to discuss the situation with him before seeking other help is the suggestion which has been made on several past occasions by hospital officials and the med ical staff. The hospital does not have resident physicians or interns so that all medical emergencies must De nandled bv Dhvsicians called to the hospital. The doc tor called on such emereencv service does not take the place of the familv doctor excent in extreme emergencies. The best possible plan is to contact the family physician before coming to tne nospital as he may wish to treat the patient at his office or home or treat the patient at the hospital. The hospital makes a charge for every emergency case and this is in addition to nnv foo the doctor may make for his services. The emergency room at the hospital is not to be considered as a substitute for a doctor's office or a treatment clinic," Mr. Zenger pointed out, The primary purpose of an emergency room is to treat only emergency cases," he said. Emergency care usually includes in-cludes suturing, splinting, blood, blood substitutes, and treatments of a similar method, he said.
