To say that Communists are active in the orem area is an understatement. Typical to a tactic used else where in the world and the United States in particular, someone has gone to the extreme of smearing an anti-Communist. A jb (apparently alluding to the John Birch Society) and a star of David (the usual Jewish sign) was burned into this writer's front lawn Saturday night of last week. Needless to say, it will be there for several months; of course, one could attempt to match the correct color of lawn green and paint it. However, I'll leave it there to remind me that what I have writ ten previously about the Com munists is true. They'll stop at nothing to keep the truth about them from being printed. Other than the Vietnam war. how much do you read in the daily newspapers or national magazines (or see any anti-communist movies or television shows for that matter) that is anti- Communist? Many people, whether they know t or not, are basically consti tutionalist in their thinking as are members of the John Birch Society. The JB's know "what to think because of the Society's educational program. Because I am anti-Communist does not make me a member of the Birch Society. But apparently someone thinks that putting a jb" (in small letters as another smear) on my lawn will influence me to stop being ananti-Comraunist-writing speaking, or otherwise. What I can't figure out is why that someone put the star of David Da-vid just below the 'jb. Nevertheless, it is there on the lawn. I admit that I am a 'Semite (as was Christ who was of the Tribe of Judah but not of the Jewish Pharisees and Saudduce-es). Saudduce-es). But I am not anti-Semitic because be-cause I wouldn't be against myself my-self or others like me. The only reason I can see for the sign is thatl have been brand i r 75 tjr.i it iP'id America the Beautiful... Apparently, what I have written about the Arab-Isrealwarandthe column on "Our Friends, the Russians has upset some people. If I have been wrong about what I have written, I would appreciate the "truth." These smear tactics, accord ing to the FBI, are common. I know one woman writer in California (the wife of an LDS Stake President) who received the full gamut of the Communists. She wrote an excellent series on Communism, Now that was way back in 1958 in Santa Barbara, Calif., the fourth hottest spot for Communist activities in California. Communist in the U.S. have free run of things since Supreme Court decisions the past 30 years have been in their favor. They can run for office (as did Mrs. Dorothy Healey for Los Angeles County tax assessor' wk received 86,000 votes), lead a union, and most recently leg ally teach in the public schools. And yet, these people are of the same element as Marx and Lenin (or Mao) who believe in the destruction de-struction (one way or another) of capitalism and Christianity. I shall continue to expose the Communists or their ilk as long as my column can be real. No true American could actual ly be pro-Communist. And the thing the Communists in this country and elsewhere fear the most is that the 'sleeping 'sleep-ing giant of America wake up to the subversion in the U.S.A. And I'll do my part to be a "no-doze to anyone who will do a little reading. HAM - GILLETTE SUPER STAINLESS BLADES 79 5 For BETTER SHAVES! sS7 , 1K5 PKPIN1W.'W(3VA8 RftftCH ROrfcTQ HCBgLB VWJCH . See Mary Sunshine Tom Berg AVIATION DAY By Tom Berg If a modern Rip Van Winkle Win-kle were to awaken today after af-ter a long sleep of thirty years or so, he'd find alot of things to amaze and confound him from television to frozen foods. But probably the greatest great-est leap forward in this span of years has been in the conquering con-quering of the air. In the early thirties the memory of Colonel Lindbergh's achievements achieve-ments in flying alone across the Atlantic was still fresh. Barnstorming fliers in stunt planes and small racing planes made daring appearances at local fairs as they toured the country. Aviation was still in its infancy. It's a full grown adult now. Millions of Americans board the great jet ships as casually cas-ually as they once stepped on a train. NationalAviationDay, established by Presidential proclamation on August 19, honors the achievements and the service of modern aviation. It has made the world a much smaller place.
