SUNDANCE DIGITAL CENTER Film fest attendees and the public arc welcome at the Sundance Digital Center, located on the lower level of the Main Street Mall, Jan. 1 7-24 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The center will display all of the latest lat-est in cutting-edge technology with hands-on displays. Each day, the center will present a program featured in the Dialogue series. The center also will be the host of the 2003 Sundance Online Film Festival. Computers will be available to access various online programs. The Sundance Digital Center is free and open to all festivalgoers fes-tivalgoers and the public. SUNDANCE HOUSE - KIMBALL ART CENTER During the festival, the Kimball Art Center will become the Sundance House, a hospitality suite for festival credentialed pass holders only. THE FILMMAKER LODGEHOUSE OF DOCS -ELKS LODGE The Elks Lodge will morph into the House of Docs and the Filmmaker Lodge, a casual venue where dramatic and documentary filmmakers can network and share their knowledge. This venue is open to filmmakers and festival credentialed pass holders only. fy" I I 04 Aii. f 3 " OPENING NIGHT PREMIERE IN SALT LAKE CITY The 2003 Sundance Film Festival Opening Night in Salt Lake City is scheduled Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Abravanel Hall with "Levity," directed and written by Ed Solomon. The film features fea-tures Billy Bob Thornton, Morgan Freeman, Holly Hunter and Kirsten Dunst. "2003 TRIBUTE TO INDEPENDENT VISIOrT-H0LLY VISIOrT-H0LLY HUNTER Hunter is the 2003 recipient of Sundance's "Tribute to Independent Vision." The festival will host a tribute to Hunter Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the Egyptian Theatre in Park City. Hunter also is featured in Catherine Hardwicke's "Thirteen," a film in the dramatic dra-matic competition that explores relationships and tensions that arise between a 13-year-old and her mother, teacher and friends. OPENING NIGHT PREMIERE IN PARK CITY The 2003 Sundance Film Festival Opening Night in Park City takes place Friday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. at The Eccles Center with "The Singing Detective," directed by Keith Gordon. The film, a manifestation manifes-tation of colliding genres, stars Robert Downey, Jr., Robin Wright Penn, Jeremy Northam, Katie Holmes, Mel Gibson and Carla Cugino. Gibson produced the film, along with Steven Haft and Bruce Davey. Downey portrays Dan Dark, an unsuccessful crime novelist hospitalized hos-pitalized and plagued with debilitating psoriasis and paranoid hallucinations. hallu-cinations. Gibson plays Dr. Giggon, who slowly helps the novelist. The production is the film adaptation of a television miniseries, both written by Dennis Potter.
