Built in 1926, the theater has a history his-tory of film, theater and vaudeville. This particular photo shows the Egyptian Theatre in 1949, a year that brought Park City George Montgomery in the film inspired by legendary outlaw Belle Starr (aptly named "Belle Starr's Daughter"). The original Egyptian Theatre was built on the site of the old Dewey Theater (328 Main St.), which collapsed under heavy snow in 1916. With the discovery of King Tut 's tomb in the early 1920s, architects were enamored by the Egyptian style and emulated it in projects throughout the world. This Main Street theater has maintained its Egyptian theme through many owners and a couple of renovations. Not long after Mr. Montgomery graced the Egyptian's screen, a gentleman purchased pur-chased the movie house and attempted to name it after his daughter, LuAnn. Despite several names since then, the theater has returned to its original name, with a slight addition, The Mary G. Steiner Egyptian Theatre. Today's Egyptian Theatre produces several sev-eral performances each year as well as theater the-ater classes and camps for children. In good times and bad, "the show," as they say, "must go on" (and always has) at The Egyptian. DWR seeks moose poachers On Jan. 8, 2003, state wildlife officers offi-cers were called to investigate a moose that was poached in Wasatch Bounty. The dead bull moose was found in the Wolf Creek Ranches development near Woodland. Investigators estimate the bull has having been killed sometime between Christmas and New Year's Eve. Adding to the distasteful nature of this poaching incident is the fact that the moose was left to waste. The poachers took only the moose's head. If you have any information regarding the unlawful killing of this moose or any other wildlife violation, please call Officer Dave Swenson at (801) 319 5206 or the Help Stop Poaching Hotline at 1-800-662-DEER (3337). You may remain anonymous. The Division of Wildlife Resources offers rewards for information leading to the successful prosecution of wildlife crimes.
