Summit County Attorney Bob Adkins has had to hang out the Help Wanted sign. As of last week, Adkins said he received about 20 applications for the vacant position in his office. Adkins hopes to interview the applicants this week and make a decision fairly soon. He then expects the new attorney to start by the beginning of August at the very earliest. Adkins had to go looking for a new attorney after Terry Christiansen, his chief deputy for 24 years, for appointed to the 3rd District Court bench earlier this month by Gov. Mike Leavitt. Christiansen also served as Park City's prosecutor since 1978. a year after he took his post with Summit County. He was also partners part-ners with Adkins in a private law firm. Christiansen's last day was June 30. His last case was the ixiren Leavitt murder trial in which the jury found the 31 year-old Karnas man guilty of child abuse homicide, homi-cide, a 3rd degree felony, in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son. The county was shooting for a criminal homicide conviction. Christiansen's departure also means a shake up in the county attorney's office. Adkins said he would divide the office between criminal and civil law with deputy attorneys David Brickey heading up the criminal division and David Thomas in charge of the civ il division. Hillyard picked as Senate President Sen. Lvle Hillyard, R-Logan, was elected to serve as Senate President Wednesday. Hillyard will fill the Senate leadership post vacated by Gov. Mike Leavitt s appointment of former Senate President Lane Beattie as slate Olympic officer. "Todav's vote was very close." said Hillyard. Senators expressed the sentiment that they would have felt comfortable electing any one of the four Senate President Candidates." Hillyard s district covers much of northeastern L'tah including part of Summit County. Republican Sens. Leonard Blackam, R-Morom. AI Mansell. and Steve Poulton were also up for the seat. Blackham was selected as majority major-ity leader. Mansell as majority whip and Poulton as assistant majority whip. "I think vou'U find that the competition com-petition is a healthy, friendly competition." compe-tition." said Hillyard. "Our efforts focus on doing what is best for the Senate and the residents of this state. Utah Republican Party Executive Director Scott Simpson and Political Director Scott Parker oversaw the election process and ballot counting. Candidates spoke for three minutes to Republican senators regarding their Senate President qualifications and leadership leader-ship vision. A Logan native and North Cache High School graduate, Hillvard currently serves as president presi-dent of Hillyard. Anderson and Olsen law firm. He completed his undergraduate work at Utah State University and graduated from the University of Utah's law school. The Kimballl Junction Chevron reported a full-sie Ford Bronco skipping on $10 of gas on June 20. A Florida resident reported a case of telephone harassment by a Woodland resident on June 21. A rug was reported stolen from a factory outlet store at Kimball Junction on June 21. On June 21, a Sandv resident reported that he was speeding up a road when a man started following in a second vehicle. The caller said when he stopped at Ken's Kash in Oakley the second man threatened him with a piece of wood and took his car keys. A Hovtsville resident reported speeding trucks near a gravel pit on June 21. On June 21. a Marion resident reported a small airplane buzzing his cattle for the last several days. A ParkWest resident reported petple trespassing in the cvunplex's swimming pool on June 21. A Jeremy Ranch resident reported report-ed that someone had defecated on her Toyota on June 22. A Snydemlle Basin reported that her home and yard was vandalized vandal-ized on June 22. A Francis resident reported some kids were pulling knives on smaller children on June 22. A Coalv ilk resident reported the occupants of two vehicles were apparently having an argument and blocking the road on June 24. The Blue Roof Market on S R. 224 reported a man paid for a bag of ice and then took five more bags he did not pay for on June 24. County Court Report Debby Lynn Davis of Evanston. Wyo.. date of tnnh. 02-29-68, was convicted and sentenced sen-tenced for the crimes of forgery, a 3rd degiee felony, and theft, a 3rd degree felony, on June 13. Davis was sentenced to 36 months supervised probation, fined SI. (XX) and is required to pay restitution resti-tution in the amount of $2,150. She is also required to complete an outpatient diug treatment program. pro-gram. James R. Gardner of Coalville, date of birth. 01-29-64. was convicted con-victed and sentenced for the crime of attempted sexual abuse of a child, a 3rd degree felony, on June !3. Gardner was sentenced to 30 days jail, fined $450, placed on 36 months supervised probation, and is required to enter into and successfully suc-cessfully complete a specialized sex offender treatment program. Ivan E. Garcia of Park City, date of birth 11-11-75. was convicted con-victed and sentenced for the crime of distribution of a controlled substance, sub-stance, a 1st degree felony, on June 13. The defendant was sentenced sen-tenced to 60 days in jail, placed on 36 months probation, and will be deported back to Mexico. David L. Hendrick of Park City, date of birth. 09-17-74, was convicted and sentenced on two counts of theft, both 2nd degree felonies; two counts of burglary, both 3rd degree felony: two counts of receiv ing stolen property, proper-ty, both 3rd degree felonies, on June 20. Defendant was sentenced sen-tenced to one year in jail, placed on 36 months supervised probation, proba-tion, and he is required to complete com-plete the Odyssey House Treatment Program, and is required to pay restitution in full to all victims. Reed L. Milliner of Kamas. date of birth. 04-05-77. was convicted con-victed and sentenced for the crimes of criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor on June 20. Defendant was sentenced to one-vear probation and is required to complete an alcohol treatment program at Aspen Therapy Center. He was also fined $300 and is required to pay restitution of $135.61. Robert Anthonv Jensen of Park City, date of birth. 11-14-56, was convicted and sentenced for two counts of forgery, both 3rd degree felonies, on June 27. He was sentenced to the Utah State Prison. Clarification A June 24 article did not clearly explain the status of a proposed trail from Kamas to Oakley along the Provo River Canal.
