Summer was pretty slow as far as tourists went and many of our tourism-related businesses actually shut down completely or, at the least, drastically cut back on their hours of operation. No longer is that the case. Our summers are now bustling with both day and overnight visitors coming for the plethora of activities Park City has to offer during the warmer months. Though no date can be pinpointed for this turnaround, turn-around, it seems to have happened five to seven years ago, about the same time mountain biking really took off for outdoor recreation. And due to some foresight, hard work and persistence, biking in the Park City area has flourished, benefiting many of our member businesses. busi-nesses. Back in 1991. Deer Valley Resort decided to open one of its lifts for the summer season, creating an expansive trail system, now offering more than 50-plus miles of trails and connecting beautifully with trails throughout town, including Park City Mountain Resort's 33 miles of trails. Before long. The Canyons will come on-line for mountain biking, adding even more trails to the mix. The Mountain Trails Foundation, perhaps the kev ingredient to Park City's burgeoning trail system, has been quietly creating one of the most diverse and spectacular spec-tacular trail systems in the Rocky Mountains. According to Troy Duffin, executive director of the Mountain Trails Foundation. Park City boasts 100-plus 100-plus miles of trails in and around the area, with more coming on-line every year. Formed back in I993. the Mountain Trails Foundation, was created to promote public trail access for all non-motorized trail users Pkase see Mountain Biking page 3 |
