Then, in days three and four, students made contraptions contrap-tions to perform specific functions. Most students wound up with a " Rube Goldberg' inventions to show to parents and classmates on the final day of the camp. Another module. -Problem solving on Planet Zak." required camp-goers to do some travelling of the imaginary variety. Having crashed on the planet Zak - a classroom with only a limited number of resources and no connection con-nection to the outside world - students stu-dents then had to go about reassembling their broken space ship, designing shelter and clothing cloth-ing for their stay on the planet and using problem-solving skills to procure food sources. A "Motion: A Movement Park" module introduced Newtonian physics to students through the design of an amusement amuse-ment park. Video footage of amusement parks helped students get a picture of such concepts as gravity, inertia and friction. After getting a feel fof what breaks and what complies with the laws of phvsics. students then set to work tm their own ride designs and models. While much of the camp's liter ature described the activities in terms of "right-brained" and "left-brained" "left-brained" integration, camp counselor coun-selor Camille Jackman said most students understood the modules in terms of fun. She said, "The kids are really enjoying it." so much so that one student who got sick during the camp didnt want to leave his module.
