Although many bands from high schools and colleges will be performing at parades and games tomorrow, Park City High's band won't be one of them. Yet it had its moment of glory. In 1950, the Park City High School band was chosen to be the featured band at the famed Shriners East-West All-Star Football Game at Kezar Stadium In San Francisco. Economic conditions in Park City were at their worst and there was no money available to pay for the trip. Band director Byron Jones (second from left, front row of this 1935 photo) made the band's financial conditions known and the money poured in from all over the country. In several weeks, $4,000 had been received and the band made the trip. It was the hit of the game! When the band played and marched at half time, 67,000 people rose to give the band the biggest ovation in the stadium's history. The staff of the Park City Museum wishes everyone a Happy New Year!
