MY SHORT-LIFE by Jason Morgan I was born in New York on Thanksgiving in 1984. At 1 a.m., I was thankful I wasn't a turkey. A couple of months from then we moved to Park City, Utah. A whole new life began: clean air, skiing and more. We lived in Holiday Village Apartments, right across the street from my great-grandma. great-grandma. I started skiing when I first moved to Park City. One year from then, my sister was born. We moved to 2783 Holiday Ranch Loop Road, right across the street from Mrs. Singer, the principal. My sister's room was right across the hall from my room. She cried all night long. It was very annoying. Right when she started to shut up, my brother was born. The crying didn't stop. All he did was eat, sleep, cry and go to the bathroom. But we got along pretty well. We beat up my sister. Unfortunately I had to share a room with him. One year from then I started daycare boring! But I met my new best friend Sam White. The only problem was that he was a L.A. Ram fan, and I was a Giant fan. During the weekend, sometime in August, I was jumping on my bed and I smacked my nose on the post My nose was bent. But the weird thing about it was there was not blood. My Uncle Jim said, "It will straighten out," the next morning at 4 a.m. I felt my nose. It was straight! I went upstairs and woke up my parents. They got mad at me for waking them up so early. Last year I was eight and we went to Yellowstone. At about 9 p.m., I was carving a totem pole and slipped and cut my finger very deep. Fortunately, stitches weren't involved. I put some medicine on my cut It stung like heck. At age nine, my dad and I went to New York City and the Umpire State Building. . , it - . .-,(".'..)! I was born at 3 a.m. in the morning in Chicago. When I was one year old, I broke my leg by falling down the porch steps. When I was two years old we moved to North Carolina. It was so far away we had to take a plane. I was so scared but when we got up in the air it wasn't so bad. ., When I was three, my brother was bom. He was a pain. All he did was eat and sleep. What I hated was him going to the bathroom-stunk bathroom-stunk up the whole house. , When I was four we moved to North Adams in Massachusetts. We had to take another plane. It was. fine since I'd already been on one. When I was five we moved to Stanford, Vermont. I started kindergarten. At six, I started first grade. My teacher was Mrs. Rearden. She was nice. We had fun in art, spelling and soccer. When I was seven in second grade, I had Mrs. Penswick. She was fun. We learned cursive writing. Now I'm eight and in third grade in Utah. My teacher is Mrs. Johnston. She is very nice and I must insist she got's one heck of a personality. A LONG BUT WONDERFUL LIFE by Megan Warren ( excerpts from a longer piece) It was Sept. 26, 1984, 9:45 a.m. when suddenly my mom yelled, "Oh!" "What?" asked my dad. "Little Ann Elizabeth is going to be bom!" "Better get you to the hospital." "Eight pounds eight ounces," said the nurse. "What would you like to name her?" "Carol! Carol!" said my cousin, sjift it noctfinsT .ion to br.uz Flat Repair Brake Adjustment derailleur adjustment Bearing adjustment Wheel truing MAY ATTEND ANY OR ALL OF THESE SESSIONS, ON IS MANDATORY. Catherine was her great, great, great, great grandma's name who lived in Ireland during 'The Great Potato Famine,'" my mom said. A couple of days later I was taken home. I was always eating, sleeping, or crying. We never had a playpen because our apartment was too small. My mom sometimes borrowed a playpen from her friend. The first time I was in it, I looked around for a minute and then climbed out. (I was a monkey and still am!) Then it happened. We moved to Washington D.C. far, far away from our small apartment in Salt Lake City. The house in Washington D.C. was my first real home. MY LIFE by Alan Orr When I was first born, my brother said, "Hi, brother." I was born in Heber City, Utah, where I've lived all my life. I was bom at one o'clock in the morning. I can't remember, but I got stitches and pneumonia when I was one, two or three. My brother couldn't pronounce Alan, so he pronounced it "Onion." Now I hate onions. I can't remember the other years, but when I was in kindergarten, I went to Disneyland. Later in the year, I went to the Grand Canyon. The next year I was in tee ball and first grade. The next year wasn't too fun because I had to go back to school. That year was OK. I was in second grade and I was in "pitching machine." The next year was third grade and I was in pitching machine again. This year I will be in fourth grade and Pony League. nwicili ' .'Jinn rilitti. ..... 7 OvW.t SV T E'R S ' '" l"Tl fit" ' M Q.,lj:.-tl 'T-y'A I N MY LIFE i by Taylor Hemming When I was bom I rolled over as I was coming out but lucky I rolled back. I was eight pounds and big. I had a little bit of hair. I was bom in Holy Cross Hospital. All I remember I did was eat, bawl, wiggle, sleep and leak. I began walking, talking, and getting my sister in trouble by pulling my hair. But she would try to kill me, and I would just bite her. I moved to Pennsylvania and started preschool. I began making friends and started kindergarten with a lot of friends. I had a friend named Steven. His family owned a farm. It was a long drive to get there. When I got back my dad had built a tree house. We slept in it once. It was fun because it was very big. The tree goes right through the middle of the tree house. First grade wasn't fun because I didn't like my teacher. I also started swim team. I moved to Park City, Utah, because that's where my parents grew up and they wanted us to grow up there too. Second grade was fun because I liked my teacher. I liked times. I started third grade. I like my teacher. I have a lot of friends in school and out,of school. I like hypercard math timings. MY LIFE by Caitlin Reid When I was bom I did not know much. Growing up was hard. Walking came along later, along with falling down and getting back up. And most of the game was not to fall or stumble. I was born in France. When I was two I was walking around, driving my mom crazy. I had a lot of pacifiers which I called "Titi." I had about 20 of them and two in each room. One day I was looking for Titi. My mom said, 'Titi is on an airplane." but, she really could not find him. When this happened, my sister was a baby. My blood filled a whole bath full. When I was five, I started school. It was kindergarten. In my classroom there was fish, toys, desks, chairs, other children, and my teacher was Evan. I had fun! When I was six I moved to Utah and this his how: I took an airplane to Paris. The we took an airplane to New York. Then we drove to Salt Lake City, Utah. The we rented an apartment and then bought a house. We did our garden and this is what we did: We raked the dirt and had some people come and put down the grass. We planted trees, flowers and my dad built a wall. When I was seven my family was working in the backyard putting down the grass and planting flowers, trees and shrubs. My sister and I helped too! When I was eight our yard was done and we could play on it. Then came third grade. That was fun. My teacher is Mrs. Johnston but we call her Mrs. J. That goes by quickly, but I still have a lot more to do. When I'm nine I will be grown up! MY LIFE by T.J. Lanning I was bom in Helena, Montana in 1984. 1 lived in a second floor BAM STT1J! I lived in Montana for four years. When I moved to Utah, I lived in a condo in Salt Lake. After half a year, we went back to Montana and we lived at my grandpa's ranch. He and his friend owned a horse. I asked if I could ride him. He said, "Yes, if you don't go too fast." That was my first time on a horse. I was fun. But when I got off, he kicked me and I fell in the hay. When we went back to Utah, and we got home I went right to bed. Last year I went to Parley's Park Elementary. I had Mrs. McBoom. She was really nice. One time my friend and I went snowmobiling in my field and we got stuck in a snowbank. I am nine years old and this Christinas I went skiing on Christmas Day and had a great time. MY LIFE by Emily Mackowiak When I was six, I started first grade. It was scary at first, but it was exciting. And I got used to it. And my sister was bom. She was a pain. When I was seven, I lost my second tooth. It hurt! But it was exciting. My tooth came out because I tripped on a toy. When I turned eight, I had a slumber party. All my friends came. I had some cake and presents. It was wonderful! And that was my life. It will go on...
