Well, keeping that in mind, here are three movies that differ greatly from one another, but are all interesting and entertaining in very unique ways. Much Ado About Nothing (rated PG-13) is Branagh's adaptation of Shakespeare's classic play. But you don't have to be a Shakespeare buff to enjoy this hilarious movie with a plot more intricate and clever than any of the recycled films out today. It's a story with two separate plots: Claudio's (Robert Sean Leonard) pursuit of Hero (Kate Beckinsale) and Benedick's (Branagh) avoidance of Beatrice (Emma Thompson), who avoids him in return. The funny part is that Benedick and Beatrice desire one another, but let their egos govern their actions. Of course, as with most of Shakespeare's work, there is a tragedy mixed in with this comedy, but all turns out well in the end. This movie combines lust, love, laughter and longing together with clever staging and brilliant direction by Branagh. One highlight: Michael Keaton, the crazy do-gooder of the night watch, and his equally crazy followers, discover a plot by mischief makers to cause trouble. I just can't say enough about what a great film this is. Trust me, you'll be glad you picked this one up. The Lost Boys 1 1 Starring Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Gertz, Dianne Wiest and Corey Feldman Directed by Joel Schumacher Warner Home Video 1987 How about this for a drastic difference? Remember, I warned you about my selection habits. I've actually seen this movie many times, as I'm sure most of you have as well. But for those of you MONDAY NITE J All vpu can eat TACOS SLesterrQ-ill 649-0883 255 Main St. It who have never experienced The Lost Boys (rated R), here is a synopsis of the film. Sam (Corey Haim) and his brother Michael (Jason Patric) are relocated by their mom (Dianne Wiest) to live with their grandfather in the small costal town of Santa Clara. But the strange things they encounter here are more disgusting than the taxidermy collection Grandpa has. Michael stumbles upon a group of modern-day vampires when he becomes interested in Starr (Jami Video Gertz). When a confrontation arises over Starr between Michael and David (Kiefer Sutherland, the ' assumed head vampire), Michael is slowly transformed into a member of the "gang." The best thing about this film is the quick one-liners that are strewn throughout the film. Corey Feldman plays one of the kids who help Sam rid Santa Clara of these flying vermin and it's hysterical to see how Sam treats Michael as an older brother who's sure to be in big trouble with Mom, instead of as blood-sucking killer. This movie tries very hard to be serious and to present a gripping plot about vampires, but it was much more successful in making me laugh. I wouldn't recommend this film for small kids, unless they're able to handle graphic gory scenes. I would, however, suggest which this is the perfect film for viewing which doesn't require much attention. You can keep up with what's going on without having to glue yourself to the television. The Polar Bear King Starring Tobias Hoesl, Maria Bonnevie and Jack Fjeldstand Directed by Ola Sollim Hemdale Home Video 1992 Based on old Norwegian folklore, The Polar Bear King (rated PG) is a cute movie that is poorly edited The story is that of a beautiful young princess (Maria Bonnevie) who is the daughter of the King of Winterland, much like the North Pole. She dreams of warm, sunny days and fields of flowers and knows that someday a handsome prince will come to take her away from her icy kingdom. To the south of Winterland is Summerland, a place of eternal sun and warmth. Prince Valemont (Tobias Hoesl) refuses to marry the DeveLoder NeecIecI 76 AcreIIorse Property WasatcH County 10 Acre Commercial Dev. He can break the curse if a beautiful princess falls in love with him-as a polar bear, of course-and agrees to marry him. The witch tells Valemont that he will turn back into a man every night from midnight to dawn, but if his bride ever sees his face at this time, he must marry the witch. So Valemont heads north and finds the beautiful princess of Winterland, persuades her to come to Summerland with him. They marry Review and all seem to be going fine. Then she peeks, sees his face, the witch captures Valemont and claims him for her own. Valemont's wife rescues him (a huge role reversal for a fairy tale) and they all live happily ever after. During the story there are some rather funny scenes and cute moments. Janet Jackson rocks by MICHELLE JAMES Record guest writer Tuesday night the Delta Center was jolted by one of today's most electrifying performers - Ms. Janet Jackson. With a stage presentation that would rival any theatrical production, this concert was the perfect blend of music, dance and magic including pyrotechnics and incredible dance numbers. The show began with a sensuous rendition of "IF, off from "Janet" album, and then took the audience on a wild journey through her list of many hits, both past and present There was never a lull in the action, as each song was part of a skit uniting each number. The choreography was almost avn identical to the videos we've seen for each song, but enhanced by both space and imagination. There was a moment in the beginning of the show when a fan gave Janet flowers and a card. While most performers would set these things aside, she instead took a minute to actually read the card and thank the fan for it. There was another cute moment when she brought up a young guy from the audience and serenaded him with a love song while he looked like he was ready to pass out from the sheer pleasure of his common But, on the whole, I felt this ) movie would have been much better if the powers that be could have arranged for it to be about 30 minutes longer. There was a section of the film where you see the prince and princess alone in their room (his face in the shadows, of course) and in the next scene, he's a polar bear again in the garden and a baby cries. Now, I can fill in the blanks, but to just cut out an entire nine months and skip over potentially cute scenes makes this movie really hard to watch. I would have enjoyed more of the princess and polar bear together before they had the little one. Regardless of poor editing decisions, The Pplar Bear King is a sweet movie the, whole family can enjoy, and little kids should be able to follow. ( Well, there you have it I can't promise you'll like all three of the films I chose this week, but I can guarantee that Much Ado About Nothing is one everypne will find enjoyable. situation. In fact, several audience members looked the same way after nearly two hours of dancing, screaming and singing along with one of the best performers I've ever seen. j I just can't say enough about this concert. She thanked the audience several times for the patience and understanding shown to her when she was forced to cancel earlier this year due to illness. It made the show much more enjoyable to know that Janet Jackson is one performer who appreciates her fans by giving them something that won't soon be forgotten.
