Her speech was part of the Woman's Athenaeum's annual mothcr-and-daughter tea held to honor the graduates. Cooke who runs the Housing Corporation of America- a nonprofit non-profit organization aimed at providing transitional housing for the homeless, low income individuals and criminal offenders "who are more hurt by the system than helped." She offered the graduates some of her 32 years' worth of wisdom. She also told the women not to wait for the perfect thing to happen, but to make a goal and go for it. Cooke said, "Have a plan, go towards it and be flexible." By remaining flexible if a new opportunity presents itself, a person can make the change. At one time, Cooke was a federal prosecutor and headed a drug enforcement task force. She has served on the state Board of Pardons. Cooke also has the distinction of being the Salt Lake Tribune's first full-time female photojournalism The opportunity was a real education, she said, because it exposed her to a variety of worlds from the workings of the Governor's office to the day-to-day struggle of the homeless. Afterwards Donna Dearden, president of the club, said the talk meant as much to her as to the graduates. PCHS senior Nikki Bradford was honored with a dictionary for her achievements by club member Eleanor Bennett.
