Show Page Twelve - The Springville Herald - September 28, 1978 Obituaries "VM IS ItS II 1 Bernard 'Barney' Krause Bernard F. 'Barney' Krause Funeral services for Bernard F. "Barney" Krause, 88, who died Sunday, Sept. 24, 1978, at Utah Valley Hospital of head injuries suffered in a fall at his home, were Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel. He was born Feb. 25, 1890 in Philadelphia to Anthony B. and Mary G. Krause. He married Ada Harrison Jan. 23, 1931 in Salt Lake City. He was a 33-year veteran of the U.S. Army and retired as a master sergeant. He was a former for-mer security guard at U.S. Steel's Geneva Works. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Order and a member of the Springville Senior Citizens. Survivors include his wife, two brothers and two sisters, Joseph Krause, Harry Krause,1 Mary Isabel, all of Philadelphia; and Mrs. Marie Haury, Florida. ' Burial was in the Springville City Cemetery with military rites by the VFW. Genealogy classes set The Utah Valley Branch Genealogical Library and BYU Special Courses and Conference are sponsoring two four-generation four-generation genealogical research classes. The classes are being offered to provide interested individuals with assistance in correcting and verifying their four-generation four-generation family group records. The classes will include both workshop and lectures lec-tures and will be taught, by Laureen R. Jaussi and Gloria D. Chaston. The workshop assignments will emphasize the collections of the Utah Valley Branch Genealogical Library and the Harold B. Lee Library. Instructions will also be given on the use of the branch library in relation to the Genealogical Society Library in Salt Lake City, and the relationship between the Utah Valley Branch Library and the smaller branch libraries in Springville and San-taquin. Lectures will include information for organizing a Book of Remembrance, compiling com-piling a personal history, analyzing and evaluating family group " information, in-formation, note keeping, gazetters and maps, obituraries, biographies, family histories, locality histories, vital records, Temple Records Index Bureau (TIB), Name Tabulation Program, Computer File Index (CFI), Family Group Records Archieve, and Temple Recorders Records. Textbooks for the course are "From You to Your Ancestors," published by the LDS Church and Fun-damentals Fun-damentals of Genealogical Research, published by Desert Book Company and authored by Laureen R. Jaussi and Gloria D. Chaston. Mrs. Jaussi and Mrs. Chaston are experienced genealogical teachers and have taught at BYU Education Weeks and BYU Genealogical Margaret C. Gabbitas Funeral services for Margaret Chappie Gabbitas, 63, of Provo, who died Saturday, Sept. 23, 1978, at her home following a short illness, was Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Provo Second LDS Ward Chapel, 610 WJ300 S. Born Dec. 13, 1914 in Spanish Fork to Joseph W. and Lillian Loy Chappie. She married Frank H. Gabbitas June 14, 1932 in Provo. The marriage was solemnized later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died in 1972. She was active in the LDS Church where she served in the Relief Society, MIA and Sunday School. She had worked as a Pink Lady at Utah Valley Hospital and had served as president of the Delta Arts Women Council. Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Rex Gabbitas and Joe Gabbitas, both of Provo; Mrs. Albert (Patsy Harmer, Mrs. Gean Peggy Wiscombe, both of Springville; 14 grandchildren; grand-children; six brothers and five sisters, Frank Chappie, Provo; Loy Chappie, Mrs. Paul (Mary Ellen) Beckstrom, both of Spanish Fork; Joe Chappie, Aberdeen, Idaho; Bert Chappie, Jackson Hole, Wyo. ; Mark Chappie, Logan; Jack Chappie, Pocatello, Idaho; Mrs. Ken (Myrle) Curtis, Springville; Norma Anderson, Orem; Mrs. Ralph (Anna Jean) Spainhower, Payson; Mrs. Kurt (Janet) Jameson, Salt Lake City. Burial was in the Utah Memorial Cemtery, Provo. Mildred B. Jarvis Mildred Boyer Jarvis formerly of Springville, wife of J. S. Jarvis and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Boyer passed away Monday at a hospital in Mesa, Ariz. Surviving are eight children, many grandchildren, grand-children, and many greatgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the following brothers, Selvoy J. Boyer, Salt Lake City; Arthur C. Boyer and Edward H., Boyer of Springville; and one sister, Mary B. Boyer of Mesa. Funeral services will be ' held today in Mesa. ' Seminars. They have also conducted genealogical seminars at UCLA, Idaho State University LDS Institute, Continuing Education in New York State, and for many LDS Church groups throughtout California, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, and Washington State. The instructors are both affiliated with the Utah Valley Branch Genealogical Library where Mrs. Chaston edits the quarterly Gloria Chaston. left, and Laureen Jaussi will be teaching the BYU sponsored course "From You to Your Ancestors" to aid genealogists and genealogy teachers with their four-generation family group records. Classes will be held once a week for nine weeks. Margaret C. Gabbitas Martell W. Denny Abilene, Tex. Funeral services for Martell William Denny, 71, formerly for-merly of Park City, who died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1978 were held in the Elliott Hamil Funeral Home in Texas. He was the brother of Mrs. Fred (Barbara) Murray of Mapleton. He was born Jan. 12, 1907 in Beaver to Edgar Rudolph and Emma Julia Skinner Denny. He married Delta Shail Sept. 4, 1928 and they were later divorced. He married Evalena Kimbrel Sept. 23, 1953. Mr. Denny was a miner in Park City and a retired automobile mechanic. He was a member of the LDS Church. Survivors include his wife; three daughters and three sons, Barbara Jean Denny, Mrs. Jack (Julia Rae) Patterson, both of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Gary (Judy) Lawless, Richard' M. , Denny, Albert G. Denny, all of Abilene; Eugene Denny, Hansford, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Fred (Barbara)1 Murray, Mapleton. Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene. Pearl Leona Speckman MAPLETON- Pearl Leona Speckman, 76, of 618 E. Maple, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1978 in an Orem convalescent home following an illness. She was born Jan. 25, 1902 in Babcock, Wis., to Albert and Mindy Balkeur Honcock. She married Lewis Earsel Speckman Oct. 20, 1919 in Jasper, Tenn. She spent most of her life in Colorado, moving to Mapleton in March of this year to live with her daughter. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Gladys Marie) Muchlenkamp, Oberlin, Kan.; Mrs. Norman (Betty June) Watson, Arvada, Colo.; and Mrs. Bill (Mae Earsel) Myer, Mapleton. Funeral, was Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Mapleton First- Fourth-Fifth LDS Ward Chapel.
