Show Page Two - The Springville Herald - September 28, 1978 Dona Whitney featured artist in Guild Art Gallery Recent paintings by Springville artist Dona Whitney will be the October Oc-tober exhibit in the new Guild Art Gallery at the Springville Museum of Art. Refreshments Refresh-ments will be served. Mrs. Whitney has studied painting for 18 years as a student of Solomon Aranda, Stanley Burningham, Michael Coleman and Kent Goodliffe. Her works have been exhibited at Utah Technical College, the Utah County and State fairs, the American Fork Community Art Exhibit and the Springville Museum. She has twice been winner of the UTC Student Competition, and one of her landscapes was purchased by the school. Mrs. Whitney also won the 1978 Best in Show Award in the Senior Citizens Division in the Utah County Fair. She is married to Ray Whitney, Springville, and teaches painting there for senior citizens. The current . show contains 25 works and will continue through October 30. Gallery director Timothy Rose said the Guild Art Gallery is the museum's new rental-sales rental-sales gallery where works by prominent local artists are displayed. Mrs. Whitney will be the featured artist at the October exhibit in the new Guild Art Gallery at Springville Museum of Art. The show will contain 25 of her works and will continue through October 30. Creative (modern) dance classes for children from the ages of four to 12 plus a teen class will be held on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at the Grant Elementary School Multi-purpose room. The classes, to be taught through the Community Schools Program, begin October 11th and 12th and run for 10 weeks. The classes will involve increasing flexibility and strength as well as exploring ex-ploring movement with space and time. Individual In-dividual creativity will be encouraged. Instructor is Becky Ellis, certified BYU instructor. in-structor. Registration for all students is on the first day of classes. Fee is $7. 4-5 6-7 Classes of fere are: Wednesday 4 p.m. Beginning year olds. 5 p.m. Beginning year olds. 6 p.m. Intermediate 6-7 year olds. TV critic to speak Saturday Mary Whitehouse, Britain's foremost crusader against the exploitation of sex and violence in television, will speak in Salt Lake, September 20 at 7:30 p.o. at the Skyline High School auditorium, 3251 E. 3760 S. The event is sponsored by the Utah Association of Women and the public is welcome. Mrs. Whitehouse is the founder of the highly successful Viewers' and Listeners' Association which began in England in 1964 due to the inroads of pornography and permissiveness on the BBC. The organization's membership currently numbers in the tens of thousands and receives further support from a number of other organizations Mary Whitehouse representing more than two million people. She started speaking out when she noticed how great the impact of television was upon the students she was teaching. TV, she said, was becoming no more than a "launching pad for the new morality," and the children were suffering suf-fering for it. In her talk she will share strategies and tell about her attempts to create a more responsible and imaginative approach ap-proach to television and a greater understanding of its impact on viewers.
