The Springville-Mapleton Parent Teacher Association will begin its annual membership drive the first week in October. Both mayors of Springville and Mapleton will proclaim the week of October 1st ghrough 7th as PTA week. Every person in the community (teachers, grandparents, singles, parents whose children have grown and gone, etc.) will be contacted con-tacted personally to join the PTA for $1.50. If you have children in more than one school, this fee will cover each of the schools. Council Membership Chairman, Darla Benjamin, Ben-jamin, has added a special attraction this year for those who join the PTA. A family movie will be held during PTA week on Thursday, October Oc-tober 5th, at 7 p.m. in the high school. Your $1.50 membership card will get you into the movie. Or you may purchase your $1.50 membership card there. Children whose parents have the membership card will get into the movie free. If the parents do not attend, children will pay 25 cents each for admission. The National, State, and Community PTA's are involved in many aspects of improving the quality of life for every child. This year the state PTA is emphasizing child abuse, and is trying to increase public awareness of the nature and seriousness of child abuse through sponsoring workshops and other instructive programs. The PTA is also involved in trying to reduce class size in Utah, reduce TV violence, help handicapped children from birth through five, help with pedestrian safety, and improve student discipline.
