Nebo superintendent comments DRIVER EDUCATION FEES TO BE ASSESSED By Joe Reidhead The Board of Education has reluctantly approved the charge of an extra fee for students taking behind the wheel instruction. in-struction. This fee is to be levied on all students whose sixteenth birthday comes after January 1, 1975. The exact fee has not yet been determined but is not to exceed $10.00. This decision was not an easy one to reath and Nebo is one of the last districts along the Wasatch Front which is not charging the fee. The problem is simply that the allocation from the State to cover behind the wheel driving is not sufficient to cover the costs with inflation hitting us on every side. There is a projected deficit for this school year of $6,215. Driver education is mandated by State law and is paid for from a fee assessed against each automobile owner at the time of registration and licensing. Every agency recommending legislation this year is recommending recom-mending an increase in the allowances for driver training, FOR SALE Automobiles 1 f 50 used cars & trucks 1 50 11 73 OLDS '2895 73IMPAUL '4695 73 OPEL 74 BUCK 74 IMPALA '3895 '3195 74 NOVA Mm. An analysis of last year's data indicates that Nebo District, with a cost of $34.24, has the lowest cost per student of any Wasatch Front district. Only Washington County has a lower cost per student in the entire State. The major increase in cost is due to gasoline prices and the additional cost of automobiles used in the program. If you have comments, please relay them to me and if you can support legislation to increase the allocation for driver training, which has been one of the most successful programs in the schools, please write your local legislator.
