Support USOMATA on St. Patrick's Day Uintah School of Music and the Arts (USOMATA) will host a "Happy St. Patrick's Day Green Tea and Silent Auction" on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the St. James Catholic Church basement. Everyone in the Basin is invited to attend the event, where corned beef and cabbage with all the green trimmings will be served while USOMATA students entertain with Irish music. The Tea has been the official of-ficial annual fund raiser for USOMATA and its predecessor, Uintah Community Schools Youth Orchestra, since 1983. This year, instead of the usual proper silver tea atmosphere, there will be a rollicking green tea celebration of St Patrick's Day Directed by Ora Fay Ovi-att Ovi-att and Marquita Slaugh, USOMATA USO-MATA students will perform Irish music, selections being prepared for Carnegie Hall, and solos from the standard Suzuki curriculum. Items for the silent auction have been generously donated by merchants and patrons. pa-trons. Admission to the Tea and lunch is $6 per person. Contributions Contri-butions to the Carnegie Tour will be greatly appreciated. People Peo-ple may also order Cummings Easter Eggs, buy Cummings Chocolate Bars, and make donations dona-tions for the future awarding of a Winchester shotgun. March is National Craft Month. To celebrate, craft retailers around the country will dedicate the entire month to crafting, offering special classes, demonstrations, tips and projects to get customers involved in the joys of crafting. Not only is crafting a fun pastime, it is also a $30 billion industry, presenting an endless end-less number of projects and avenues for creativity. With so many imaginative possibilities, possibili-ties, all are encouraged to take that great kid in their lives a child, grandchild, niecenephew, nieceneph-ew, neighbor or someone who is simply a kid at heart to their local craft store to enjoy the festivities. In honor of National Craft Month, the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) offers the following tips so that everyone can easily become involved and discover the pleasure of starting start-ing a new craft project. DECA students perform well at state Last week 41 students from Uintah High School and Vernal Junior High School competed in Provo at the state DECA competition. com-petition. These ninth through twelfth grade students competed com-peted on individual and team events in areas such as entre-preneurship entre-preneurship business plans, community service and public relations projects, marketing role plays, marketing research events, and quiz bowl. The following students were finalists in their events: Matt Showalter, ninth place in Automotive Au-tomotive Services Role Play; Madisen Hansen, sixth place in Apparel and Accessories Role Play; Aaron Richens, seventh place in Restaurant and Food Management Role Play; Cecilly Francisco, sixth place in Hotel and Lodging Management Role Play; Bo Harris, fourth place in EntrepreneurshipParticipating Event; Aubrie Vencill, Natalie Nebeker and Nickole Holmes, fourth place in Community Service Ser-vice Project; Adrienne Francisco Francis-co and Katie Palmer, first place in Buying and Merchandising Team Role Play. Also finishing finish-ing in the top 12 were Brandon Bainbridge in Food and Marketing Market-ing Role Play and Nickole Holmes Hol-mes and Kye Hansen. Students placing in the top three in their categories earned the right to represent the state of Utah at the International Career Development Competition Competi-tion in Orlando, Fla., April 27 through May 2. DeSandre and Sami Jensen, third place in Entrepreneur-ship Entrepreneur-ship Promotion Project; Brandon Bran-don Bainbridge and Nimesh Chaudhari, third place in Hospitality Hos-pitality and Recreation Marketing Market-ing Research Event; Brittany Jones and Liz Miles, first place in Retail Marketing Research Event; and Adrienne Francisco, Katie Palmer, Cecilly Francisco and Brandon Bainbridge, first place in Quiz Bowl. At the opening session of the competition last Tuesday, Anita Enloe, DECA advisor and mar ketingbusiness teacher at the junior high, was named Marketing Market-ing Teacher of the Year for the state of Utah. Enloe has been with Uintah School District for 18 years and a DECA advisor for 13 years. She has one of the only ninth grade DECA programs in Anita Enloe, DECA advisor and teach er at Vernal Junior High, was namej Marketing Teacher of the Year foi the state of Utah. the state and has had numerous students throughout the years qualify to attend the national competition.
