Show Tall Winter 1005 9 Discover Dinosaurland t into tli ho On a visit to downtown Vernal during the holiday season it is easy to see how the holiday spirit can get contagious. Friday, Nov. 25 is set for the lighting of Heritage Gardens downtown, the community Holly Days celebration including the parade of lights down Main Street in Vernal, Santa's Workshop begins with Basin crafts available avail-able for purchase, and the lighting of Cobble Rock Park in the center of town. Entry forms for the parade of lights can be obtained through the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, 134 West Main. All parade entrants will have holiday lights and are required to adhere to the holiday theme. For more information call 789-1352. Along with the annual parade of lights, the Trees for Charity event and gala will begin the same week with the beautifully decorated trees adorning the showroom of Imperial Auto. Take the trip to the Vernal Middle School Friday and Saturday to enjoy the sights and decor of the holiday season at the annual Santa's Workshop craft fair. Community Holly Days includes a number of holiday-spirited events this year such as free ice skating at the new Western Park indoor rink beginning around 2 p.m. (times may vary) until the parade begins downtown. Go cart races will be held at 100 East just off Main Street for those interested in watching these extreme hobbyists demonstrate their handiwork. Ice carving demonstrations demonstra-tions by a professional from the Wasatch Front will be on hand at Cobble Rock Park for spectators to enjoy. The carvings will be displayed throughout the day as well. The Jingle Bell Jog will begin at Davis Jubilee parking lot just before the parade at around 5:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome to participate with the requirement that they wear some type of bells or dress up in holiday attire as they will be leading the parade. The parade of lights will begin at 5:30 p.m. with each holiday themed float adorned with some type of twinkling lights. Vernal City offices are now taking applications for those interested in entering enter-ing the parade. Following the parade, further fur-ther events will be taking place at Cobble Rock Park including the opportunity for kids to sit and visit a bit with Santa beginning begin-ning at 6 p.m. South Vernal Avenue will be closed for the remainder of the evening's events with bonfires for roasting marsh-mallows, marsh-mallows, hot chocolate will be provided, entertainment and Christmas karaoke for those interested, and games for children. R.C. races will be demonstrated by Wild On Hobbies on South Vernal Avenue as well. The Uintah Basin Literacy Commission will be announcing a short story contest as the Holly Days celebration draws closer with each entry being read at the celebrations celebra-tions that evening.
