Show 18 Vernal Express Wednesday, August 24, 1994 BOYD WORKMAN and David Hatch, Ashley Valley Water and Sewer Improvement District, show state inspectors new unit at the Ashley Springs treatment facility. Unit added to AVWSIO treatment plant The Ashley Valley Water and Scwcr Improvement District has added a 2 million gallon treatment unit to its 6-million gallon treatment facility at Ashley Creek, about 9 miles north of Vernal. The new unit was put in place about three weeks ago and is ready to be filled with filter medium. Once the new unit is operational, sometime in November, the plant will be able to treat 8 million gal lons a day. When the plant was built 9 years ago, the building was over-sized to allow for the additional unit Total cost of the new unit will be under $230,000. The unit is manufactured by Wheeler Brater. The all-electric automated plant uses gravity flow to treat most of the water. There is a standby generation gener-ation plant in case there is a power ' failure. The plant is manned by someone four hours daily. Money is already in place for the project and was generated by the district without bonding or increasing increas-ing taxes. The addition to the plant was made to treat the water better and to meet more stringent state standards. The volume of water treated at the facility has increase by 5 percent per year. 100 years ago VERNAL EXPRESS. For Park City and Salt Lake Now that the Uintah reservation is to be thrown open for settlement, there is not reason on earth why Salt Lake and Park City should not become the main supply and outfitting outfit-ting points for that entire section. It is a simple matter, and can be established estab-lished permanently, quickly and at very small outlay, but building a few miles of road between the head of the south fork of the Provo river and the DuChesnc, above the Indian farms. At present there are two routes to the reservation on the Utah side. The one from Price is 90 miles to the Fort aero a desert that furnishes furnish-es neither wd, feed or water, and is used only because it bnngt the Fort nearer the railroad. The settlers arc very anxious to have the route opened, and if Park City and Salt Lake have any energy at all they will have the work performed. Once that fertile country is settled its trade will be worth striving for, and unless an effort is made to secure it to Salt Lake and Park City, it will surely go to Green River a Rock Springs, Wyoming. Now is the time to act, and Zion and this camp shoutd not allow the grass to grow under their feet Park Record. LOCAL ITEMS What is the uc of having your children omed to death with bugs. When theoretical or practical researchers look for solutions solu-tions to problems, they know that the formation of the question is the most critical step. The question actually ac-tually sets the course toward the solution. so-lution. The good teacher knows how to phrase the question to lead a student to success. The good therapist thera-pist or counselor forms questions that lead to self appraisal and direct-edness. direct-edness. The effective spouse or parent par-ent questions in a way that sets a stage for trust, expectations, and support Offering questions leads to growth; giving answers or advice leads to dependency. The problem is that we haven't grown up in a world of questions. We've existed in an environment of right answers and quick fixes. This is so entrenched en-trenched that when people question they are often considered by bosses, governments, parents, and teachers to be malcontent, rebellious, or ignorant. ig-norant. Let's look at how questions and questioning can lead to growth and positive relations. The most powerful thing a person can do in searching for solutions is to identify, "What is it you want?" The difficulty with this question alone is that some people haven't learned how to search, identify, prioritize, pri-oritize, and select Others fear some reprisal or ridicule if they open themselves up that much. Still others oth-ers wish to avoid the commitment that goes along with admitting what they want Sometimes the question is just too broad. Looking at the mental pictures of what we want compared to what we have will give a clue of where to focus. fo-cus. When what we want is different differ-ent than what we have, frustration occurs. Prioritizing our frustrations allows us to identify an area of focus. fo-cus. We can then ask, "What do I want in my area of greatest frustration?' frustra-tion?' This leads to an almost infinite infi-nite number of follow-up questions. I'll share a few general ones for starters. What do I want? Do I need to be "right" in what' I've been or am I willing to give up something to get what I want? What am I currently doing what's helping me get what I want? What am I doing that's keeping me from getting what I want? What can I do to get closer to what I want? What are my beliefs about this situation sit-uation and how are they causing me to behave? What knowledge, facts, or research re-search exist that may help me concerning con-cerning this situation? Which elements do I have control over and which ones do I not? Am I willing to build a plan based on the information generated by these questions? Am I willing to be specific enough in the plan to give me high odds of success? Who is available to assist me? How will I know if I'm following ' my plan and if it is successful? As with any questioning process, this one requires honest, open searching, self disclosure and plenty of incubation time. This involves risk, but without risk we can't grow. The right answer isn't the important impor-tant thing. It's the question and the process that questions lead us through. It's a continual learning process. Through it, we meet our needs in a rapidly changing world. Keep in mind that it's not the learned who stay abreast in the changing world. It's the learner. The learned believe they have arrived. The learner continue to ask themselves them-selves questions.
