Local girl finalist in pre-teen pageant Charlotte Harmon, daughter of Jolccn and the late Ron Harmon, was selected from 30 contestants as a finalist in the American Pre-teen Pageant held recently in Salt Lake. In addition to her position as a pageant finalist, Charlotte was also crowned as "Miss Congeniality." The pageant was held June 9-10 at the Salt Lake Hilton. The Academy is sponsored by Governor Norman H. Bangerter and the Center for Free Enterprise Studies at SUSC. Academy participants partici-pants who demonstrate excellence through academics, leadership, extra-curricular activities and community commu-nity service. Students were selected from throughout the state to attend the prestigious event. Local businessman, Steve Harwood, has been invited to participate par-ticipate in the U.S. Space Observance Week in Salt Lake City by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Harwood will set up a coin press in the ZCMI Center, Hansen Planetarium and Symphony Hall where he will mint coins in silver and copper to commemorate the Apollo 11 flight and first landing on the moon which took place 20 years ago this July 16-24. Harwood is the owner of First Impressions, a local business which specializes in producing coins for use as business cards, tokens and commemorative pieces for events including weddings, showers, an- nivcrsancs, conventtons, irand openings and others. Evans also pointed out that the 1988 local win- ncr, James Nickcrson, won the state competition and went to the region- al finals in Denver. A positive result for Nickcrson was evidenced in the signing of a contract with a record company. One of the 20 paintings by Jack Barber which will be on display at the Outlaw Trail Fesival of the Arts on July 4. Oregon artist's work on display during fetival Noted western artist, Jack Edward Barber, will be displaying 20 of his painting exhibition "The Westward Thrust: Portraits of Perseverance" at the Outlaw Trail Festival of the Arts on July 4. The display will be in the foyer of the Vernal Middle School, as will the juried exhibition sponsored by the festival. The display will move to the Uintah County Library following the 4th where it will remain during the month of July. Barber's paintings are the result of research focusing on the lives of rromment men and women who participated in the settling of the West, particularly the Pacific jsjorlnwcsl ' , . , .
