Show Balloon races to get off ground Those who were outside before 9 a.m. Saturday, got a glimpse of things to come-a hot air balloon was floating across town. The scene will become more common com-mon as the first ever balloon race will be held in Vernal Sept. 23-24. Two of the key individuals interested in hot air ballooning in Utah were in Vernal last Saturday to test the air currents and set a course for a race being promoted by the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce Projects Committee. Committee director Marie Yoder said the committee had looked at sponsoring a balloon race, but the expenses were prohibitive. Jerry Morris told the committee about an acquaintance in Park City who had a balloon. Stewart Collins turned out to be the director of Autumn Aloft at Park City. Collins along with Nick Saum, were in Vernal to make preparations for the event which is expected to attract 10 to 15 balloonists. The scenery and interesting air currents should make the Vernal races interesting, said Collins. The first year the prize money is being waived, but usually such events have a large purse. Yodcr said she views the event as an economic boost to the area, by attracting people specifically to view the event, which has attracted thousands in other areas. The event will be sanctioned by the Balloon Federation of America. For the two-day two-day event, balloonists will come into in-to the area from a designated point point outside and the second day the outside and the second day they will float out from the Vernal Airport -Zr . You know how many times you wondered if it's really possible to succeed and spend so much of your productive time doing paperwork for our various vari-ous government agencies. You've often thought, I'm sure, how nice it would be if you could just sell your product and arrange for delivery and service and forget all of the other hassles. An Incubator does not solve all of These are things that an incubator is all about. They don't solve all of the problems and they don't profess to. Yet statistics show that in this day and age 80 percent of the businesses busi-nesses that start up on their own, fail. Yet, of those businesses that start up within the incubator system, 80 percent succeed. An incubator idea has been with us for some time but we have never been able to establish one here in the Uintah County. With the help of the Grow Uintah Board, the County Commission and other government entities, we hope that the Chamber can be a leading RANDY BEERS and Ray Kier hold balloon while fan fills it with air in preparation for a launch. 1P ti .c project proves to be a draw for toui-ists, il will be continued next year, Yodcr said. llllllllillllllllillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllH Western Resources WRAP-UP liiiiiiini:Mtinnii5ii:rHiiiiinni:i::iin:!u:iui::!:::i:itiitij::ntiiiunn:niuii:i:nt:iinuttiniiininniiiitiiiiiiita 1990 energy, water funding bill fl Ittlmc C Motibf rt Vrrnal CtHftfHif(4rHl Wailao?iaii--iWRy)-Thc tc ;" 4 r.4 t-'C IV") tnnf '.f ftf.'l H (HH Zt '!:) Wl ioftC ZQ c xi $. ! -.. 4 ::. f.f tn fic w v;k?
