They cruised to a 20-11 first place win, Wednesday in the second championship game in the Vernal Men's Year End Tournament. The CED Bailers garnered second place, St. James placed third and Morcon netted fourth. The Ashley team had a 10-7 lead going go-ing into the bottom of the fifth inning, but when the dust had cleared, they were ahead by ten runs at 17-7. Todd Parker led off with a walk and Stuart Parker singled. Ben Lawson drove in the Parker brothers with a three run homer, which gave Ashley Valley Realtors, a 13-7 lead. John Merkley grounded out, but Steve Smith ripped out . a double. However, Claye Robb topped Smith with a two run homer. Monty Lee got on base on an error, Gary Monsen flied out. Home run fever hit the Ashley team once again as Danny Long belted a four bagger to make the score 17-7 in favor of Ashley Valley Realtors. Burke Buckalew flied out to end the inning. Seven runs were scored in the bottom bot-tom of the fifth by the Ashley Valley Realtors, but the CED Bailers netted zero in the top of the sixth. Clark Mc-Clellan Mc-Clellan flied out, but Jimmy Rhoades got on base on an error. However, the next two batters, Ron Baker and Dave King flied out. The Ashley Valley team continued where they left off in the bottom of the fifth as they scored three counters in the bottom of the sixth for a 20-7 lead. Craig Monsen and T. Parker singled and Monsen scored on S. Parker's fly ball. Lawson delivered back to back inning homers as he smashed a pitch for a two run circuit clout to present a 13 run lead to his team. Merkley grounded out, but Smith singled. However, Robb flied out. Ashley Valley had a huge lead going go-ing into the top of the seventh inning, but with two outs the Bailers had a mild rally going on. Kim Peterson singled, but Arvel Tassainer and Tim King flied out. Hank Nawahine singled singl-ed in Peterson and Bill Smith also singled. A double by Paul Smith knocked in Nawahine and Smith and cut Ashley Valley's lead to ten runs at 20-10. McClellan reached the base paths on an error, but Rhoades ripped rip-ped a shot off C. Monscn's glove at third base. P. Smith scored, but McClellan Mc-Clellan took a wide turn at third and was tagged for the final out in the game by C. Monsen. The first lead in the ball game was acquired by Ashley Valley Realtors as the CED Callers grabbed a 2 0 advantage ad-vantage in the top of the first Inning, Hon Uakcr and Dave King grounded out. but Pelmon and Tassainer singled. Parker and Lawson flied out to end the inning. The Bailers came right back in the top of the second inning and scored three runs to tie up the game at 5-5. B. Smith flied out, but P. Smith doubled. McClellan singled and Robert Nelson grounded out. A double dou-ble under an infielder's glove by Baker scored Smith and McClellan. D. King ripped a shot up the middle and sent home Baker with a 5-5 tie, Peterson flied out for out number three. ' i Two runs were scored by Ashley Valley Realtors in the bottom of the second inning to break the tie and grab a 7-5 lead over the Bailers. Smith and Robb singled and Lee advanced ad-vanced the runners with a fly ball. G. Monsen drilled a single to score Smith and Robb. Long singled. Buckalew was walked, but C. The Bailers scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut Ashley's lead to three counters at 10-7. Peterson Peter-son walked and scored on a triple by Tassainer. A great leaping catch enabled Long to snare a ball hit by T. King, but Tassainer scored on a-fly ball out by Nawahine. B. Smith singled, singl-ed, but P. Smith flied out. Home run power by Ashley Valley Realtors, which consisted of three homers in the fifth and one in the sixth, delivered the final deathblow to the CED Bailers' victory hopes as they ended up losing 20-11 to the Ashley Valley Realtors.
