Phone Forest region has worst fire season The National Forests of the inter-mountain inter-mountain Region are having the worst fire season in recent history, according accor-ding to Regional Forester Stan Tixier (pronounced teh-SHAY). "This is an especially serious situation because some of our most severe burning conditions con-ditions are still to come.'Tixier said. 6o far this year the Forests of the Region have had 11 major project fires that have burned a total of 92,000 acres. The average number of acres burned annually over the past five years is 38,968 acres. Large project size fires have been fought in Idaho, Utah and Nevada for a cost of over 20 million dollars. The past three years have been wet, resulting in an abundance of fine fuels (grasses), which ignite easily and burn fast. The situation is aggravated by some of the Forests having the drjest spring in recorded history. Numerous dry lightning storms added add-ed to the problem of controlling fires. With fire fighting resources being strained and the dangerous fire conditions, condi-tions, it Is especially important for National Na-tional Forest visitors to contact their local Forest Service office and find out the local fire restrictions. Everyone should be very careful with fire while in the Forests, warned Tixier. ron tait 24' (Vpa-Wiraw travel a Itcee-H wid 1,01. ei rir-s roi, t; ft pmmot J-oo si J ye'-- rot itt ui tv i o can w syd caurra ton nt i In tifmel I d - i,"e 5pm ui ;;; ;rja ffX)T raSrvo t-"-r wednesdoy, August 21, 1985 Vernal EybfeMfldveftlsef 11 s "CAGNEY & LACEY Her husband and her partner finally talk Mary Beth (Tyne Daly) into seeing a doctor, and she is distraught when he recommends surgery, on "Cagney & Lacey," which airs MONDAY, AUGUST 28 on CBS.
