First off. for most of us our dental needs are not usually as costly as our health needs. If you brush and floss daily, then most of us do just fine with cleanings and a check-up. In most cases, dental plans will pay for routine cleaning, x-rays, and check-ups. Also covered, but usually at a lesser degree are root canals, crowns, and gum treatment. Cosmetic procedures such as whitening and veneers are usually not a covered benefit. Understanding your dental benefits is NOT easy. There are as many different plans as there are contracts. For instance, two employees with different companies may be covered by the same insurance company, but they have vastly different coverage. The coverage you get is based on the policy your employer buys with the company. This may present a problem, because dental insurance is typically not a consumer-chosen item, but something offered as a perk by the employer, since tax considerations make it cheaper to give denta] insurance than to give more pay (same with medical insurance). Dental insurance really makes little economic sense otherwise, since the costs of dental work are usually and rather low, (insurance annual limits are typically S1000 to $2000; deductibles on other kinds of insurance can be that much), common, and predictable. Dr. Jim Abraham Insurance coverage is ultimately between the patient and the insurance company. Dentists are merely helping out trying to facilitate the claims for the patient and assist them in finding out what is covered. Unfortunately, your insurance may have what they term an "Alternative Benefit" clause. That means they reserve the right to pay less for the services you received, if they can possibly think up an alternate to the treatment you had. For example, most dentists place white, mercury -free fillings. Yet, many insurance companies arc still paying for white fillings as if they were silver-mercury fillings. Why? Because Ilia! i^, how dental insurance companies make the highest profit margin. Dental insurance companies are not looking out for your health, nor do they have your best interest at heart, regardless of how slick their advertising may be. businesses, and as such they are in it to make money. They aren't looking out for your best interests and shouldn't be the be all and end all determinant of what the best treatment is. Insurance companies can get in the way between ideal treatment and treatment which suits the number crunchers. Eco-Tip:Make Your Own Mouthwash. Just as how making your own natural toothpaste is a completely safe route, creating your own natural mouthwash will prevent adding more potentially harmful chemicals to your body. You can make your own mouthwash with 2 Dental insurance is, in every way, as different from drops pepperment oil, 2 drops tea tree oil, 1/2 teaspoon sea Medical Insurance as night from day.
