With the help of two new club members who are both competitive sporting clays shooters, Mike Lehncr and Dennis Watts, along with the support and help of the dedicated board of directors and vice president Jason McKenzic, Mair's vision of a sporting clays course at the HVGC was realized this weekend. Lehncr generously purchased and donated a sporting clays thrower to the club and pitched in toward the purchase of a second thrower that the club bought. He also lent his expertise in laying out a satisfying and challenging course. Watts was able to secure loaner target throwers from Provo Gun Club to complete the course. The HVGC will throw sporting clays on the last weekend of each month, with the exception of July. July's sporting clays course will be open Saturday only because the Annual High Gun Shoot is sched- uled for Sunday, July 31. A different course will be laid out for each sporting clays weekend, 'llie next sporting clays shoot at HVGC will be Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. on June 25 and 26. Steroids proposal a hard sell to players • Continued from B-5 rently arc banned for players with minor league contracts as drugs of abuse. Players who test positive the first time are sent for counseling, and a sec6nd offense results in a 15-game suspension. Management has not provided any statistics on positive tests for amphetamines in the minors. Union head Donald Fehr says he probably will respond this week to Selig, and in the past he has said in similar circumstances that he will consult with players on his executive board before deciding the next step. With players scattered around the country, it would be surprising if the union did not take a while to develop a consensus. While several players said they were willing to make changes, some sounded intransigent. ""Hie punishment can be for five minutes or be for five -years; the biggest thing players don't want to be is labeled as a user," Michael Young of the Texas Rangers said. ""There is no reason to panic and sit there and try and get a new punishment policy. It doesn't make any sense to me. 'Hie fact is the policy is in place now, it was put in for a reason, and we should give it a chance to work."
