"We're doing the acoustic music. The bands latest studio release the music we started playing back in is "The Ride" a 13-song effort '73 and '74," said Los Lobos bassist which includes the band's songs Conrad Lozano. "We set out to learn all those difed in the music from their heritage, in particular, Mexican folk-songs ferent types of music,'" said Lozano. Their current tour, the and also related kinds of music from all over Spanish-speaking "Cancionero 2005 Tour," as it is called, will concentrate on more traditional types of music, Mexican folk tunes, and other songs with Puerto Rican, Cuban and other influences. "We've played these songs before, and people who are real familiar with our music will recognize them," said Lozano. But, he noted, the songs are not much like ihe bands more recenl recordings. Rather, they should be completely new to more casual listeners. "You're going to see instruments you've never seen before," said Lozano, noting traditional Mexican instruments like the guittarron. And he said the music will be similarly new. "The rhythms that you hear are rhythms that Americans wouldn't hear." And while the music is different, the band feels that it has a duty to bring this type of sound out to the people, using its popularity, experience and knowledge to help spread the underserved sounds. Its last unplugged tour was ilLa Pistolay El Corazon" 15 years ago. "We hadn't don it in quite a long lime, and we need to do it," said Lozano. "This is something we're very devoted to; we feel people need to know about this... It's just a great idea to bring it out on the road. We're hoping that people respond to it and dig it." In addition to their history of fusing Latin music and roots rock, Los Lobos is also known for its improvisation and jam-filled road shows. "Our live shows are pretty much different [from our recordings]," said Lozano. "When we play live, we feed off the audience." He said the band first experienced Park City playing at the Sundance Film Festival, and is eager to return. The show should be a good one, he said. "We just want to invite everybody to come down," Lozano concluded. "And they won't be disappointed." Los Lobos will play at the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theatre, in Park City on March L2 The touring poster for Los Lobos' " Cancionero 2005 Tour" is shown here.
