So reads the text which accompanies the exhibit, "We Remember, We Celebrate, We Believe; A Photo History of Latinos in Utah," which will be displayed in the Kimball Art Centers Badami Gallery as a part of the organization s upcoming exhibition, Arte Latino. 'Hie words are a fitting opening to the show, which will focus on the Latino art and the Latino experience in Utah and aims to bring the Latino community into the Park City art scene and educate others about Latino contributions to the arts and community. The full exhibit will open on Friday, March 11, and will include a whole host of related events and activities, from a poetry contest, a teaching mural for area students, other special art-education events, film screenings sponsored by the Sundance Institute, and art talks for adults. All of this, of course, in addition to the works of 15 different artists, which will be on display in the Kimball Art Center's Main Gallery, and "We Remember, We Celebrate, We believe: A Photo History of Latinos in Utah,1' which will be curated by University of Utah professor Dr. Armando Solorzano and displayed in the Badami Gallery. BLIND Additionally, the Kimball will conduct special children's art classes for Arte Latino, and perhaps most significantly, is the organization's mural project. Salt Lake City artist Ruby Chacon will conduct a series of four Saturday morning sessions at the Kimball, guiding kids aged 9-18 in the creation of a 40panel mural. The mural will represent "individual Park City experiences within the portrait of Mexican-American icon Cesar Chavez," according to the Kimball. The mural painting sessions will be held March 12, 19, 26 and April 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Kimball. The mural itself will be on display in the lobby of the Kimball throughout the exhibition. Other individual events will include the introduction of the Real Salt Lake's new jersey on Saturday, March 12, the opening reception for Arte Latino, which will be that night, and a Latin jazz-themed "Jazz Night at the Kimball," organized by the Art Center and the Park City Jazz Foundation on Friday, March 18. The show and its satellite events will be a huge undertaking for the Art Center according to all of those involved, and as CroweWeisberg noted, there are a raft of supporters behind the whole effort. "We have just a whole list of contributors," she said, "of dollars and in-kind gifts.'* Those people range, she continued, from companies and organizations to individuals, all too numerous to name, but all greatly appreciated. With that group included, many are likely anticipating the event. "I'm looking forward to seeing how the community responds to the different forms of art," said Saez. "I think the whole thing is interesting and different, and I'd like to see it become a yearly thing," said Crowe-Wei sberg.
