Hanscom has been very pleased thai a lot of the top juniors are coming out of the local area. "Quite a few of the junior skiers are coming from Park City than from the rest of the areas put together." said Hanscom. "Certainly cross-country skiing is more convenient and parents are here because they like to ski. More participation means more kids that are the cream of the crop." " TUNA activities, and the Timber land Wasatch Citizens Series arc open to more than just world-class skiers and youth. Hanscom says thai each week he sees plenty of older skiers, many which are former national Nordic coaches. A benefit of youth participation has been increased adult participation. According to Hanscom- many youngsters originally got involved because their parents loved to cross-country ski. but as these children began to invite their friends, the new children brought their parents along. The sport and all TUNA activities are very accessible to newcomers because of the versatility. "Whatever pace is comfortable - in cross-country skiing, you can enter at any level you want. just like hiking, running or biking." said Hanscom. When they are not hitting the trails of winter, TUNA continues conditioning and social activities throughout the year.
