Locations for the different classes will be indicated with signs in school halls. All students who wish to take an advanced-level math course and have not yet passed the appropriate placement test need to do so on Wednesday. Academic accolade Park City resident Vanessa Bowman Pierce has been added to the faculty of Ave Maria School of Law in Michigan as an assistant professor. In this position, she will teach intellectual property, trademark law, patent law, and copyright law. V'-Pierce began her law career as an associate with Workman, Nydegger and Seeley in Salt Lake City, focusing on patent and trademark prosecution. Most recently, Pierce was an associate with Parsons Behle and Latimer in Salt Lake City, practicing in the areas of patent litigation, trademark oppositions, and domain name disputes. Prior to entering the legal profession, she was a molecular biologist. Pierce holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Utah and a juris doctor with honors from the University of Notre Dame. :•• ?.<- :,-, By JARED WHITLEY Of M Record staff Ask Ecker Hill Middle School Principal Greg Proffit how his summer's been. He'll smile, point to the construction crews around his school, and say, "This is it." He and Jeremy Ranch Elementary School Principal Michele Wallace are overseeing the last few days of their schools' intensive summer renovation and construction. Both principals are confident the schools will be ready by Monday, Aug. 23, when classes start. "At midnight on the 22nd.,.this coach turns into a pumpkin," Wallace said. "I'm feeling very good about the 23rd," Proffit said, later commenting, "Every now and then I have my moments." The $8 million construction on Ecker Hill is primarily to prepare for grade realignment at the beginning of the 2005-06 school year, when all six- and seventh-graders will come to Ecker Hill, expanding its projected population from 400 to 660. Space for 16 new classrooms has been added to Ecker Hill, but some portions of the old building have seen renovation as well. The upgrades ,will make it easier for parents and students to get information relevant to their education, according to year, it's more stuff," Frink said. The Web site includes information ranging from immunization requirements to school boundaries, from elementary school lunch menus to construction updates. A portion of the site is devoted to the School Board, including agendas, minutes from previous meetings, and information on items like the budget. A news section on the main page will be routinely updated with the most relevant news items in the district. "We want parents to know that this is a useful resource and know there's actual content there." Frink said, The biggest change is in the site's Web address: the district domain name is changing from parkcity.kl2.ul.us to pcschools.us. District email addresses will change their extension to pcschools.us as well. "It's a lot shorter than that whole nonsense there," said Frink, noting that the old extension will still work. Last year, the goal with the Web site was to gel it functioning, whereas "this NOTICE OF PROPOSED TAX INCREASE activities, holidays and other times when schools are closed, parent-teacher conferences, and other important dates to remember. "And actually up to date, which has been a real push," Frink said. As a result of the proposed increase, the tax on a $384,000 residence will be $1,242.91, and the tax on a business having the same value as the average value of a residence in the taxing entity will be $2,259.84. Without the proposed increase the tax on a $384,000 residence would be $1,227.92, and the tax on a business having the same value as the average value as the average value of a residence in the taxing entity would be $2,232.58. The 2004 proposed tax rate is .005885. Without the proposed increase the tax rate would be .005814. This would be an increase of 1.22%, which is $14.99 per year (1.25 per month) on a $384,000 residence or $27.26 per year on a business having the same values as the average value of a residence in the taxing entity. With NEW GROWTH, this property tax increase and other factors, Park City School District will increase its property tax revenue from $29,401,570 collected last year to $30,874,246 COLLECTED THIS YEAR WHICH IS A REVENUE INCREASE OF 5.01%.
