ISHPEMING, Mich. (AP) Picabo Street will be inducted into the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame on Jan. 28 along with Donna Weinbrecht, Alan Engen and Thor B. Groswold. Street was the gold medalist in Super G at the 1998 Nagano Olympics and the silver medalist in downhill at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. She won World Cup downhill titles in 1995 and 1996. The brash skier rebounded from a broken leg to make the 2002 Olympic downhill team, flew down the slopes and into retirement, finishing 16th in her last competitive race. Weinbrecht, the most deco- rated moguls skier in the history of the sport, is a five-time World Cup champion with 46 wins. She was the first Olympic moguls women's champion in 1992. The Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center with its Engen Ski Museum at Utah's Olympic Park, just outside of Park City, opened two years ago. Engen dedicated 15 years of his life to develop the 29,000-square-fool, $10-million museum. In 1952, Groswold joined the board of the Certified Ski Officials Association and became chairman seven years later. At the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, he was chief steward for ski jumping. USAfenceris top seed ATHENS, Greece (AP) American Sada Jacobson was given the top seed In the Olympic women^ saber fencing competition on Thursday, leading to a possible showdown with her sister, Emily, in the quarterfinals. Jacobson, ranked No. 1 in the world, earned a first-round bye in the 24-woman draw while her sister, Emily Jacobson was given the No. 9 seed and will face Hong Kongs Chow T^z Ki in the first round on Tuesday "This is what I've been working for, to be seeded as high as possible," Sada Jacobson said. "If we do make it that far, it'll be an interesting bout." The sisters from Dunwoody, Ga., were joined in the top 10 by Mariel Zagunis, of Beaverton, Ore., the No. 3 seed. In April at U.S. Championships, Sada Jacobson defeated Zagunis in the semifinals, before beating Emily 15-13 in the championship bout. "There's a good side and there ^s a bad side," Emily said. "If we hadn't been together, then we could have both made it to the top four, but we could have also both lost. So, if we make it this far and we both are in the top eight, it would be really good _ it's a guarantee to have one of us in the top four." Women's saber is being competed at the Olympics for the first time. Last year, Sada Jacobson became the first American woman to earn the worlds top ranking and the first U.S. fencer of either sex to claim the title of overall World Cup champion. In men's saber, Vladimir Lukashenko of Ukraine was given the No. 1 seed, while four-time gold medalist Russian Slanislav Pozdniakov was seeded No. 2, American Ivan Lee was given the No. 15 seed. Kecth Smart, who last year became the first American fencer to earn the worlds No. 1 ranking, was seeded at No; 22. Jason Rogers rounded out the U.S. men^ saber contingent at No. 25. Lee and Smart are from New York, and Rogers is from Los Angeles. The top 25 fencers in the men^ saber draw earned byes. Switzerland^ Marcel Fischer was seeded No. 1 in men's epee. Seth Kelsey (Brush Prairie, Wash.) was the top American at No. 7. Soren Thompson (San Diego) was seeded 15th and Cody Mattern (Tigard, Ore.) 17th. In women^ epee, France's Laura Flessel-Colovic and Maureen Nisima were seeded No. 1 and No. 2. Kamara James of New York was No. 24. Italy's Valentina Vezzali, the reigning gold medalist from the 2000 Games, was seeded No. 2 in women's foil, behind countrywoman Giovanna Trillini, who won the bronze in Sydney. American Erinn Smart, Keeth's sister, was seeded No. 15 and could face Vezzali in the second round. In men's foil, Italians Andrea Cassara, Salvatore Sanzo, and Simone Varmi earned the top three seeds. Dan Kellner (Warren, NJ.) was seeded 26th.
