Whether it means thrilling sports action, a learning experience, or just a distraction on the road, the Park City Cycling Festival has descended on this town and will run until Aug. 22 all over the Park City area. The Park City Cycling Festival is presented by USA Cycling and serves as the United States Cycling Federation (USCF) National Championships. T h c competition will include road races and criteriums for junior, espoir (ages 18-22) and masters level participants all vying for the national championship for their age group. Of the Record staff Park City High School head volleyball coach Kelsi Carlston is young, smart, savvy and is looking for a lot of love and devotion this year. She's hoping this dedication will come from her team, her town and anyone else who wants to be involved. The new focus on commitment is at the center of coach Carlston's game plan the 2004-05 volleyball season. "I've placed a huge influence on if we want to succeed we have to focus on one sport and Park City's a multi-sport town," says Carlston. In order to foster commitment, Carlston has begun structuring her program to become more developmental. "We want the younger girls to develop as much as the older girls," said Carlston. Part of this effort has already been put into place with Carlston's first sixth, seventh, eighth grade and incoming freshman volleyball camp. "With this camp, they'll understand the expectations, understand the correct technique and come more prepared to play high school volleyball," said Carlston.
