Chabries has been appointed assistant academic vice president for computing at BYU. Before being named to this position, Chabries served as the department chairman for electrical engineering. Chabries will work closely with the newly formed policy and planning plann-ing council to fulfill an administrative ad-ministrative charge to develop a unified, cohesive direction and strategy for the future of campus computing and information systems. He will be responsible for providing the comprehensive plan as well as representing the academic aca-demic community. Chabries joined the faculty in 1978 after heading the Weapons Technology Division for Naval Ocean Systems in San Diego. He also served as head of the electronics elec-tronics branch of the Nav al Undersea Center in Pasadena. Chabries, a graduate of Bountiful High School, earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Utah, his master's at the California Institute DOUGLAS M. CHABRIES of Technology and his doctorate at Brown University. Doug is the son of Melvin and Maxine Chambries of Bountiful. His wife, Ada, is the daughter of Rulon N. Smith of Bountiful. |
