Show 'Where does the sky end?' The National PTA Reflections theme for 1989-90 was thought-provoking thought-provoking and inspiring for this year's contestants. Mueller Park Junior High School winners, as pictured, qualified for council contestants, and two have gone on to be judged at the state level. They are Allison Ogden, for a watercolor of tropical fish, and Ryan Oakes, in literature with a story about the theme. Stephanie Hostetter received honorable mention men-tion for her oil painting of a mountain moun-tain scene. School winners in the various categories are listed below. Music: Colby Poulson, with a piano composition entitled "Wind." Photography: Jamison Pexton, subject, hot air balloons; Regina Hale, a canyon scene; Jon Koenig, a church; Tim Larsen, a canyon; and Kristin F Urn ore, a landscape. Visual arts: Melanie Welker, an acrylic entitled "Birth of a Star"; Nicole Slatter, watercolor of a sunset; Mark Lovins, pencil sketch of an eagle; and above-mentioned Alison Ogden and Stephanie Hostetter. Literature: Ryan Oakes and Suzette Stringham wrote stories with the theme title; Tiffany Wins' story was entitled "The Right Key"; and two poetry entries were Liz Benin's "Union With the Reflections winners from Mueller Park Junior High are (front l-r) Melanie Welker, Alison Ogden, Natalie Moon, Suzette Stringham, Str-ingham, Liz Berlin, (middle row) Stephanie Hostetter, Nichole Slatter, Kristin Filmore, Tiffany Ivins, Regina Hate, (back row) Jon Koenig, Mark Lovins, Colby Poulsen, Jamison Pexton and Tim Larsen. Waters" and Natalie Moon's "The Sky Is Me." The PTA also sponsored a spelling spell-ing bee for seventh and eighth graders, Feb. 21. Lists of words to be given were posted in advance for practice. More boys entered than girls and winners were: Brooks Bahr, seventh; Jonathan Fisher, eighth; Ryan Blackburn, seventh. Prizes were given that day. Brooks Bahr will go on to compete at the council level. A leadership workshop for elected school officers and representatives rep-resentatives was held recently on a Saturday morning. Lynn Trenbeth spoke on what a leader is and how to be effective. The two characteristics that were stressed most were dependability and reliability. |
