Show In Your Opinion straight.' I, too, spend my free time in front of Crossroads Mall, enjoying enjoy-ing the new music. I also wear black and have my ears pierced, but I have never used any form of ding or alcohol. I have a job that pays above minimum wage, received a 3.5 GPA last term, and have plans of going to college. The second article is the worst I have ever read. Never before have I seen racism and prejudice so craftily woven into the fabric of a story. It is not unlike the propaganda propagan-da Hitler used to subject the masses to his power. This terribly written article was about a gun incident between some students in the Davis High parking lot. The report began in the traditional, tradi-tional, fair way of stating the facts. Then, in the fourth paragraph, the alleged suspect was unnecessarily labeled as a "Sunset resident, studying stu-dying English as a Second Language Lan-guage at Davis High. ' ' The alleged suspect is further slandered in the report as "the ESL student." A quote from one of the alleged victim's father inferred that the reason this incident occurred was because the alleged suspect was not Caucasian, calling him an "Asian boy." Statistics were even provided about the ESL program at Davis High as a whole, appearing to say to me, "ESL students are bad." This information was not only unfair, but incredibly cruel, creating a sense of fear against all people who do not speak English fluently. Reports such as these, and there have been others, are the reason there is racism, prejudice, and unnecessary un-necessary violence against others. There is absolutely no excuse for this type of reporting. I demand an apology be printed and that the ethics of the entire Kaysville Today staff be re-evaluated. Myq Larson Davis High Student Press should be unbiased Editor: It has been common etiquette of the press to be an unbiased informant, infor-mant, showing its readers all sides of an issue, and letting the readers decide for themselves what to believe and think. Unfortunately, the staff of the Kaysville Today has failed repeatedly re-peatedly to abide by this tradition. Two examples come immediately" to mind which I would like to discuss in detail. F A few months ago, a story appeared ap-peared pertaining to the new policies of Crossroads Plaza, i.e., playing classical music outside of the east entrance. I was outraged at the content of this one-sided, false, and libelous article. It stated that "Punks" were causing caus-ing problems by congregating in front of the entrance to the mall. The story also insinuated that these people, libelously labeled "Punks," were always smoking, drinking, using drugs, and panhandling. pan-handling. There is no mention as to why these people are here or even any 'proof of the alleged problems. I would like to set the record. |
