Add enjoyment to meal By CHERIE HUBER CENTER VILLE-Well chosen and beautiful table settings add a great deal to the enjoyment of any meal. That enjoyment is multiplied when beautiful settings are combined combin-ed with holiday fare. Marva Randle at Karleen's- in Centervjlle has available many of . the beautiful new patterns of china now on the market Much of the new tableware has a" very old-fashioned look. Much of it is decorated with fruit and flowers in the European style. But there is a difference. Some of the new china has a slightly raised design, which gives a look of more depth to the design. Many of the pieces can be used from the oven to the dinner table and on to the freezer without harm, yet the pieces look like old fashioned china. "The trend today is toward the look of not your mother's table but your grandmother's table," said Randle. The lace look is also strong with the china. In crystal the trend is to taller stems andL clear glass. Cut lead crystal and glass with fine etched designs in traditional patterns have all become very popular again. Dark colors are no longer popular. "If there is any color to the glass at Vl all it is very light in color," Randle said. Another interesting change is that stainless flatware is now more popular than silver flatware with clean lines and well-executed designs, many of which are comparable com-parable to old silver or silverplate pieces. Along with its popularity, the price of stainless is also up frpmi 30 to 40 percent because of the rising ris-ing price of nickel and zinc used to make stainless steel. The Santa Fe look is also starting to catch on along the. Wasatch Front: according to RandTe.' Solid colored1 stoneware from Nancy Calhoun comes in striking and yet very compatible com-patible colors. Flatware with ce--ramie handles is available to match the stoneware. Randle felt that people with the country look move toward the newly new-ly popular Victorian style, while those with contemporary homes might more often choose the Santa Fe decor if they were changing things around. Silver trays and brass trays and other pieces are popular accents along with copper. Place mats and napkins in solid colors have continued to be popular. Randle mentioned that a change in the color of place mats can change the entire look of a table. Many people use cloth napkins at "Thanksgiving arid Christmas with seasonal napkin rings. Mft's a way of making a special time of year tru-ly tru-ly special," said Randle. |
