Show Fire guts Layton home LAYTON-A Monday morning fire destroyed the home of Sheridan and Rbylene Murphy, 930 East 2000 North. Layton Fire Department responded a call at 3:30 a.m. By the lime they arrived, the attic of the home was destroyed. Fire and smoke had heavily ' . damaged the first spy of the home. Estimated damages were set at $100,000. Mrs. Murphy heard a smoke detector, and used the home's intercom system to alert her four children. -The family then evacuated the home. Mr. Murphy was at work at the time. ' It is believed the blaze was caused by an overheated length of stove pipe that went from a wood-burning stove through insulation in the attic.
