Show wx Cm ch&t By ROB KIME In the process of writing this article, arti-cle, I have the opportunity to share with you some of the accomplishments accomplish-ments of an incredible student-body. student-body. I think it is past time that I recognize some equally phenomenal pheno-menal members of the award winning win-ning faculty here at WX. Two years ago amidst talk of closing down one of the greatest high schools in America, the school board in a last desperation effort, handed over what they considered con-sidered a real can of worms to Wallace Wal-lace Hawkins. Affectionately known as "Wally" he approached an initially very hostile student-body student-body with all the cool, level headedness that one accumulates administrating junior high. That is if you survive with your sanity in tact, which he did. 0 A Many of the problems that were y so prominent upon his coming have all but disappeared thanks to a great deal of caring and a lot of time " and hard work. Financially, he is nothing short of a miracle, reducing reduc-ing the school's substantial debt by more than half, almost painlessly. Wally is the biggest WX fan you will ever find anywhere, and it is his genuine concern and fantastic administrative abilities that have helped WX come so far in the last couple of years. Without a doubt, Wally's influence does a large part in making WX "A Step Ahead." So Wally from an admiring stu-dentbody, stu-dentbody, faculty and a whole bunch of satisfied parents, thank you! You're one of a kind. Contrary to some information that was previously printed, the Water Wildcats all but drowned the Bountiful swim team, and they were not the least bit tired. The swim team strides through gruelling gruell-ing workouts every morning and every night, on weekends, and holidays. To watch them you'd think they were born with extra muscles the rest of us don't have. But that is not the case. They just work much harder than anyone else. That is why they are "A Step Ahead." Even the members of the outstanding out-standing WX drama dept. with their infinite gift for communication communica-tion would have a hard time telling you just how incredible their five performances of the musical "Oliver" really were. Bonnie Hobbs and Sheila Price produced the most dazzling version of this classic ever seen on or off broadway. The star studded cast included such greats as Alex Garochochea as "Bill Sikes," Jim Henderson as "Fagan," Lee Wright as "Artfull Dodger," Melanie Widderburgh as "Nancy," and veteran Mathew Kjar as "Oliver." I am an experienced experi-enced bragger but it is hard for me to put into wor ds the feeling of total and absolute awe that flooded the WX audience as people were swept up in the amazing believability , and emotion that the cast produced. It was of course up to WX standards. It was "A step ahead." |
