Show Smith's opens Layton store By DONETA GATHERUM LAYTON The largest store in the Smith's Food chain was opened last Wednesday at the intersection of Gentile Street and Fairfield Road, across the street from the old store. The store is 66,000 square feet compared to the 45,000 square feet in the former store. Due to the need for more space for perishable goods, the increase in floor space was necessary, according to Haven Simmons, operations director direc-tor for Smith's. The new store will have an expanded bakery and service ser-vice deli. The produce department is three times larger than the one in the former store. Other services customers may enjoy include one-hour photo finishing, post office services and a branch of Zion's Bank. This is the second store Smith's has opened this year in Davis County, Coun-ty, the first was in Farmington. Smith's will employ 188 full and part-time people at the Layton store. This is an increase of about 62 employees over the number in the former store. Mr. Simmons said the company plans to rent or lease the former store but as yet no commitments nave been made. |
